You are well prepared and this excellent. As Doris Day, who works with animals, once said "They give such boundless love." They do and I would never abandon one of them -never.
Thank you for the news about that little boy. It's important that he knows his dog is OK. Maybe he can't have him right now, but knowing his dog is in the care of good people will help him.
Yes, when I thought about a 'go bag' for myself I also took my cat into consideration. Knowing shelters will not take pets too there is a decision to be made in regards to the matter of pets. That decision for me was to not wait until the last minute in a evac. order if at all possible, recognize the shelter will not be my temp. home, knowing what hotels accept pets, and at worst where some campgrounds are at outside of 50 miles. This is the least consideration one can do for animals we take into our lives.
Wow! Tough question. But in the end, I'd like to think that I'd go down with the cat who laid on my back pillow and left his paws hanging over my face while I slept. Leave him to fend on his own - I simply couldn't do it.
Yes. Life or death questions are difficilt with pets. I would ask to have my pet shot is a recuer had a gun or I would choke my pet to death. I know that sounds bad, but I would not want my pet to suffer.
Try a Schnauzer, they are sooooooooooooo smart and sweet!
But first I would have to check my globe, cause I got no idear where Timbuktu is.
Some people cut the ears of a Minipin to make them look more like a toy Doberman, but I disagree with that. Her tail is docked, but that happened long before I got her.
Minipins are actually an old breed, around 400 years old, bred originally from a mix of terrier and dachshund, for the purpose of keeping rats and mice out of big old German kitchens. They are very very persistent, and really bright...I had Bebe neutered when I got her 7 years ago, because she's so small, if she got out when she was in season, she'd likely be killed by any other male dog.
They have long memories, and if they are ever mistreated, they can become extremely mean. Initially, Bebe had some bonding problems, because she had not been socialized to people. She was from a line of champs and was bred to be a breeder. The breeder had sudden serious health problems, and sold all her dogs for a pittance, to people she knew would love them...
I feel very fortunate to have her as a beloved pet, in spite of being neutered, she's very maternal, cuddly, and gentle with children. The only time she's ever crabby is when she's asleep and you try to move her. She'll growl and sometimes snap. She's so tiny she can't do any damage, though...she's nearsighted, but she has excellent hearing. She's like a tiny shadow, always with me, so that when I'm away from home, like tonight, I really really miss her...
In a thunderstorm, she goes between my feet, even when I'm walking, so it's more convenient to just carry her around.
Tink loves storms, though, and will go right out in the rain and thunder and stand and sniff the air....
My fish, yes (though if it were a flood situation I'd open the tank lid so they could just swim out). My cats, no. They would go with me and my mom. Cats, important papers, and if possible, laptops. That's all we need to evacuate. Of course, after Katrina, we're going to build a full survival kit (already have water stored up in milk jugs in the freezer).
Dogs in the back seat,
cat in the box,
horses in the trailer.
Howdy NaNa...
Got hay??
