Hi Friendly FReepers!
I used to have this problem with Firefox, and haven't seen it for awhile until today.
Firefox crashed (which it's been doing a lot lately) and now when I try to restart it, it asks me which profile I want to use, and it won't let me choose the default one. (Says it's already in use.)
I know there's a simple fix to this, but I don't remember what it is.
Help a Freeper out?

Shut down you PC and restart immediatley

It didn't terminate properly - it's still running, even though it looks like it's quit. Pull up the task manager, right-click on firefox.exe, and select "End Process". It should restart normally after that. Alternately, log off and back on, or reboot to kill it and restart normally.

What has happened is that Firefox crashed. It leaves a module running in the background in Windows. You can go to your task manager and shutdown the module, but a restart usually is easier.

Thanks that got it... and then I run firefox.exe -p to change the profile back to default?
And why is firefox crashing so much recently... like three times day every day for the past week or so... it's usually really stable...

What version are you running? 1.0.6 is most recent. Mine has been fine here and at work....

Usually when FF crashes like that, it's a theme or extension causing the problems. It's a bit of work, but the best thing to do is uninstall all themes you've added, and all extensions you've added. Then add them back in, one by one, until you figure out which one's the problem.

You had the same problem with IE. Dude, maybe your machine is seriously hosed with spyware that isn't being detected by normal scans. Have you tried reinstalling Windows from your system disk?

Best advice on this thread. (1.06 has been a real problem with even the most innocuous of extensions).
