Freeper Scooter Patrol?

The wife says I am NOT allowed to get a 'scooter' just to use to get back and forth to work...
I've never been interested in the 'big & real" motorcycles, but...what's WRONG with getting a decent looking scooter?
They range in prices from $2,000 to $6,000 with 80 to 244cc engines and some interesting safety features like ABS brakes.
So, what's the FReeper take on gettin' on a scooter? Gay, Too Italian or sensible for urban conveyance??
Who's got one like these? Are you worried about cars & safety? What kind of mileage DO they get?

I had a "Honda 50" early in High Skool, which would have been the early 60's....sumpin like 50cc which would top out at maybe 40 miles per hour.
It was nerdy, but the real reason I got rid of it was that my hands would freeze on the way to skool in the morning, and my first period class was Typing.

My humble suggestions -- unless you only commute under two miles don't get anything under 50 cc, no matter your weight. And beyond that five minute ride zone, if you weigh over 160 or so, get something over 125cc.
And with a two-stroker don't forget to add the fuel-mixture oil.

Buell Blast $4695 It's made in America, and far more capable than any of the scooters you mentioned.

In emergency rooms, these things (motorcycles) are referred to as "donor-cycles"....

The wife is right. She wants you around alive and healthy for a long time.
Just about almost everyone who rides motorcycles or scooters gets into accidents, some get seriously hurt. I know someone who had broken legs a couple of times and a concussion and a 26 year old guy, who ended up a paraplegic. What a price to pay. It doesn't matter that it's not your fault, all the insurance money you may get, if it wasn't your fault, doesn't help you be whole again.
Since you asked, my advice is, forget it and listen to your sensible and loving wife.
Get a small car instead, if you want agility.

I rode mine in rain and even in the snow *lol* I'd not wear gloves sometimes so I'd pull over my sweaters sleeves on my hands.

That doesn't look too bad. The ones above are a little too feminine.
Maybe Hummer should make a scooter.

Depending on how far you have to go, how about a Honda Ruckus? (small engine, not made for highways) Great on gas, cruises comfortably at about 35 mph. Plus, it doesn't have the Euro/Gay look about it.... Honda makes a good product, but I gotta tell you that I think the Ruckus looks like a lawn tractor sans mower deck
When I first got interested in two-wheeled transportation I wanted a Honda Reflex, but DH told me he wouldn't ride with me if I had one :( - he's a bike bigot . So I ended up taking the MSF class and getting a Suzuki GS500 motorcycle...

I think scooters don't compare well to larger motorcycles, myself. A motorcycle with a 650cc engine can be had for the money you're considering. The larger engine gives you much more flexibility in traffic. You can take it on the freeway, as well. Parking is no more difficult than with a scooter. And, myself, I think a motorcycle is way cooler...
