A Lipstick President
The president is working up a sweat, keeping that perfectly toned body perfectly toned. I slide past stone-faced men with earpieces and ask the president how it's going.
"Good," she says, grinning. "People ask me if there could really be a woman president and I say, Of course, it's the 21st century."
Geena Davis was shooting a rowing scene at the Potomac Boat House on Monday morning for her new ABC show, "Commander-in-Chief," about the first woman president.
Luckily, the first woman president is tall, a shade taller than W., so she's eyeball to eyeball with generals and ambassadors. And she's a redhead. Redheads, a recent study showed, have a higher tolerance for pain. In the show's premiere, a lot of pain is dished up for Ms. Davis's character, Mackenzie Allen, the vice president of a conservative president who keels over before the first hour is over.
Nobody wants the vice president, a political independent, to be Madame President. Not the president, who tells her before he dies to resign so his ally, the archconservative speaker of the House played by Donald Sutherland, can get the job. Not the president's chief of staff. Not her sulky, sexy conservative teenage daughter. Even her supportive (and faithful) politico husband gets skittish after East Wing staffers begin calling him "the first lady" and arrange his meetings with the White House chef.

Hmmm... looks like there might be a necessary addition to "Must See T.V." in this Owl's nest...
That being said, the ads for this show are a joke. "Oh NO! What on earth would America do if they were faced with a WOMAN PRESIDENT?!?!?! " I mean it's not like Hillary is the forgone conclusion as the D candidate in 2008 and Condi could probably be the R if she wanted to.
What a bunch of dopes. Still gonna watch for Gina Davis and "daughter" tho.

So wait...the presumption is that Geena is VP...then the Pres (who is called a conservative-presumably a Republican) keels over...but she's an "independent" so right there the premise is wrong since running mates are obviously in the same party as the candidate they are teamed up with!

This show will die a quick death. The Democrats already have a fake president: Martin Sheen.
BTW, Ed Brooke's on my black list.

You forget Andrew Johnson. He was a Union Democrat, in 1864.
When he became president, he was impeached.

Geena Davis is a well-known liberal supporter who is heavily involved in politics assisting the most liberal candidates.
Donald Sutherland has been a huge lib for several decades now. His choice as a "conservative" is revealing of the intents this series will have.
This show has been in the works for more than a year with careful planning, etc. You can expect to see a great deal of conservative bashing and the painting of a woman as tough, yet compassionate.
Make no mistake. The intent is to "soften-up" America to the concept of a female president prior to a run by Sen Clinton.

Read the whole Mo piece and you'll see. Ed Brooke was a US senator from MA - and he was the first black senator since Reconstruction. That's why he's on my "black list."

All depends on where you draw the line, bro. Born March of '89, so she's 16. For me, old enough to look, but not enough to touch (or stalk).
Donald Sutherland has been a huge lib for several decades now.
I'm going to say this because I'm first hand aware of it, but Donald Sutherland stayed in the hotel I worked my way through college in for about 3 weeks. He was almost thrown out (final warning) because he kept "accidently" jumping out of the closet/bed/bathroom stark naked when the housekeepers would come in his room.
That's all I need to know about Sutherland.
