~The Dragon Flies' Lair~Thread~XXII
August 28, 2005 | bentfeather/The Poets of the Lair

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Christina Rossetti

A DAUGHTER OF EVE

A fool I was to sleep at noon,
And wake when night is chilly
Beneath the comfortless cold moon;
A fool to pluck my rose too soon,
A fool to snap my lily.

  My garden-plot I have not kept;
Faded and all-forsaken,
I weep as I have never wept:
Oh it was summer when I slept,
It's winter now I waken.

Talk what you please of future spring
And sun-warm'd sweet to-morrow:--
Stripp'd bare of hope and everything,
No more to laugh, no more to sing,
I sit alone with sorrow.

by: Christina Rossetti (1830-1894)

It’s Coming

Autumn’s flaming colors sift in windy windings,
cascading curtains between the barren trees.
Wind dancing leaves in a swirl around me,
like a flame colored curtain of parchment scrap.

Timeless moments, oh so soulful binding,
as this autumn day just seems to swiftly flee.
I love the chilly crispness amid autumn’s debris,
as I zip up my jacket and tug down my cap.

Precursor to stark winter’s reign upon the land,
this is the season of Nature’s last fling with color.
Our warning of the time to come of monochrome,
to make us ready for the first tint of new Spring.

So we take what comes to from winter’s hand,
and hope the snowdrifts will surely get no taller.
Oh I do hate the chilly landscape so dolesome,
and I ache for that first touch of Spring’s first fling.

Sharing Is Better

She was so bright and happy; and she seemed to glow with pleasure,
her deep and beautiful eyes, so bright with that effusive rush of joy.
How could I, ever tell her it was really I, who had won the treasure,
or that I handed her the winning ticket, so that glow not to destroy?
