Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I love that movie...one of my favorites.
I stopped kinda/sorta on the way home from church for donuts. OK, so I made a special trip for donuts. Oh well.
Also decided homemade cookies might be the best cheap present I could send my brother for his birthday - it's the eighth. So I need to run out later for ingredients and a tin or container of some sort.
Going to do Heath bar cookies of some sort. He likes those.

I'm just thinkin' I better have the container on hand before I start baking, or the cookies may not make it in it. I need to be able to seal 'em away right off...

One of our best friends' birthday is the 8th, also. He is the one who introduced us 32 years ago, so he holds a special place in our hearts. ;o)
Which brother is this?

It's Jim's birthday. He and I have the two out-of-place birthdays...the rest are all in May through July, except Mom and Dad's.

She's generally not around much on weekends. I imagine she'll check in by tomorrow morning if she's been pinged.

She wouldn't have been anywhere near, I'm guessing, but I'll bet it scared her...

Just finished making a screen for one of the windows.
I think my splining technique leaves something to be desired.

Well, how many have you made previously? Hmmm. The first one is the hardest, the rest seem to get progressively easier to do.
I once made some screen windows and aluminum windows for the basement. Took a whole day to get the first pair right. The last (of 6) was nocked out in a couple of hours.
It's been a right quiet day in the HH.

I rescreened a door once a few years ago. I was using a plastic splining tool (which I left in NC) instead of the metal one I bought yesterday. The concave part of the metal tool seems more narrow than that of the plastic one and I kept jumping the track.

Do you know anything about repairing wood windows? One of my windows has an aluminum strip that runs around the edges. This strip is coming loose in some spots making it hard for the window to close properly. I think the thing is glued on...don't see any nails. Should I just try to glue that strip back on? Should I remove it and replace it with....?

Thanks for keeping the thread alive. :-D
I think I'm coming down with a cold or sumthin'. Dry cough, scratchy throat, runny nose and an all-over-blech! feeling.
Just had some lovely green tea with honey. I'll chug some Nyquil around 10pm and cross my fingers. *grin*

Hi, Mr. Osagebowman, how are you?
I may make a crossbow or 2, just for fun. I've found a couple plans for them on the net, do you recommend any?
Not going to make the prods I don't think, it looks like they can be bought. Same for the firing mechanisms, most likely.
Meanwhile, did the guys get many gators bowhunting? Wondering what they'd do with them - I suppose a headmount would look nice on the wall.

Yeah, but I'm not worried about the cold.
Now that Alyson is going to day care, I fully expect her to bring stuff like this home.
I'm just glad that both of my girls seemed to escape the worst of it. :-D
