The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

My heroine's arc is that she grows out of her self-doubt and hesitation as the crisis progresses.

But ultimately the world gets destroyed.

Maybe you should write a trilogy. Just so's you can make lots of money on the first two installments afore everyone gets blowed up in the third.

Well, there is a story after the world gets destroyed. But first things first. ;)

Hey, my story would work really well as the opener of a whole series, if we're talking commercial success.

I don't think I could write a wimpy female character. One way or another, mine always wind up wielding guns and weapons with sharp edges.

Hence, a Marine officer ...

You know ... that could work ...

Is it pronounced "Lahk-lan?"

Mine don't always wield weapons per se - though they often do - but writing a demure little girl, or a wimp? Not me.

Of course since at least 50% of my heroines are based on the same "character", and she's a fiery spirit, they do tend to have a lot in common... the one for this NaNo is different, though. She's more talkative for one thing which is why I have to use first person. Her personality just won't work in third.

The male lead is a tall, dark, mysterious type with a cool temperament and l337 skillz. I am gonna love this!

No whiny little nuisances for any of us, right?

I can't abide whiny women!

*Sigh*

Need to find something else to watch besides the news. Don't really want to catch up on the local murdars and fatal accidents.

Well on the topic of whining, I had a stinker of a day.But it's over now. I ate chocolate at work, ordered pizza when I got home - it's a stress response. And my sweetheart gave me a big hug. So it's all good again.

Got some good data from last night. :)

We had work guys in the lab installing shelving so I didn't get any samples prepped. Transcribed yesterday's meeting minutes...did some odds and ends.

Got laundry going now and just but an acorn squash in the oven. Reckon I ought to clean some collards.

Are you a 'Richard Sharpe' fan? I got "Sharpe's Havoc" on CD from the library and have been listening as I'm driving around town. When Clare is in the car, we listen to "Order of the Phoenix" on tape. Sure beats listening to the news!

I got an acorn squash the other day. I'm gonna try a recipe I learned in Japan!
