Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Well... another thing I've just learned that y'all probly already know: Don Adams died today. Dang. Maxwell Smart.
Bummer. :-(
Maybe its already come up, but I thought this was an interesting tidbit from the story:
There will be a private memorial service. Burial will be with Marine Corps honors at an undetermined location.
Interesting. He was a Drill Instructor in the Corps, and served in Korea. Imagine that.
Rest in peace, Marine. :-)

Apropos of nothing at all, how's the job situation down there? I wouldn't have left at my discharge in '99, but I couldn't find work...though I may have overshot my mark and assumed I could get hired as the same sort of mid-manager I was as a Sergeant.
But...I'm really off to bed now...any reply I'll see in the morning. Thanks :)

He was a Drill Instructor in the CorpsOK... all I can think of now is him shouting at the raw recruits in some sort of bizarre crossing of Maxwell Smart and R. Lee Ermey.

'99 was the front edge of the tech collapse, so that may have affected your job hunt. Things are finally starting to pick up again now though. You can check out the
Austin American-Statesman's Job listings page to see what is available. Also, be sure to check job listing sites such as
Monster,
Dice, and
WorkAustin.
Heck, there's at least 3 or 4 more job search sites that I should list, but that's 4 off the top of my head anyway.

108! Yowsers!
David went to the Austin City Limits outdoor festival thing on Friday night. He called on Sunday morning and was SO choked up! The dust kicked up by 10,000 or so folks irritated his bronchial tubes something fierce. He wanted to go back Sunday night to see Coldplay, but wasn't sure if he felt good enough to go. I hope he did, he sure wanted to see the band.

108? Sheesh.
Fall came here exactly when it was supposed to. I noticed trees turning yellow today and it hasn't been past 78 all week.

I heard some reports on the radio this morning about how bad the dust was at the ACL fest. There hasn't been any rain in weeks, and when Rita passed us by she sucked all the moisture out of the air, dropping the humidity and raising the temperature. It's been over 100F every day since last Thursday, and over 105F for the last 3 days or so. Counties are having to institute burn bans, because everything is so dry.
A cold front is supposed to come through Thursday night though, that may bring some rain and is supposed to drop the temps down into the 80s for highs.

Believe me, I'd much rather have cool temps and changing leaves over what we've got.

Maybe someday we will build the Hobbit Hole compound. Somewhere with nice weather. And seasons that aren't "wet" and "dry".

My boss has a 'Team member" workshop or some such deal going today and tomorrow. He thought "None of us is as dumb as all of us" was pretty funny.
