The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'm alone, too.

Thinking about doing something really exciting...like making vegetable soup.

Oh well...least I get to go to my first concert in MONTHS later tonight. And it's nice and cool outside. And I have coffee.

Yes, it's the wrong time of day for coffee, but I discount that whenever possible.

OOOO! So not true! It's never the wrong time of day, unless you're planning to go to sleep in a couple hours...

You sound as though you're enjoying the volunteer thing. I'm glad the gal who came in calmed your concerns about having filled the forms in wrong. I suspected you were doing it as well as anyone could have done. I'm also glad you're finding out a lot about the area. Nothing like 'natives' to give you the scoop! I'm hoping that a permanent job will result from your contacts from this volunteer gig, if you don't get that one at the school that you want.

ThaT is one of our favorite movies! Clare was pleased to see that Michael Caine was in Batman Begins because she liked him so well in Secondhand Lions.

It's NEVER the wrong time of day for coffee! We simply adjust the lead level as they day progresses. Heavily leaded early on and unleaded in the evening. ;o)

In any case, it gets me out of the house, and makes me feel like I'm not completely useless to the world as a whole.

And having a few people from the area to talk to is a definite bonus.

The trip to Loveland for the interview yesterday, scary as that was, was also helpful. Made me determined to do a bit more exploring. Of course, I get lost each and every time I do...even going to the donut place this morning I went in circles for awhile. But now I know that area better than I have, on account of being lost there. ;-) It's not the conventional method for getting to know a town, but if it works...

The same gal at the volunteer job told me there's a German bakery and restaurant down in Loveland. Can't remember if I mentioned that here or not. If I can figure out how to get there...it could be a very dangerous thing. ;-)

Ya know...the weird thing is, the last time I tried to cut back on caffeine, I had horrible trouble sleeping. I have no idea why that should be.

I don't like the days when I accidentally go one cup (14 oz. "cup", though) over my limit. Don't like the shakes and the heart pounding.

But some coffee is so good, it's worth it.

I'm really spoiled here, in some ways. Granted, I miss having Green Mountain Coffee Roasters coffee in all the groceries and gas stations just because they have blends that I know and love and it's good stuff. But there are LOTS of local roasters here - you can get super fresh roasted coffee beans all over the place, and realllly good coffee for pretty cheap.

Maybe I should pot up a lot of little aloes and give them out at Halloween.

Ha! That'd be an interesting NaNo idea...someone gives people cute l'il plants that, as it turned out, can still communicate with the Mother Plant, which is in the house with the Toaster of Doom...who is masterminding a world take-over.

Do cats eat aloe?

Back from the picnic. It was fun, we played softball and I scored four times. Lousy-softball is way more fun than actual-team-softball.

My cat doesn't. Miss Cat nibbles on spider plant sometimes. Right now I have some potted grass that she nibbles on.
