The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

You wanna hear a funnie...erased the opera thing off the old hard drive, and the tape's packed in a box.

Looks like I'll be digitizing it again after I move...

No, don't send it back.

Oh DANG!!

I was trying to find it anywhere online the other night. Looks like it's disappeared! Actually the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. website was down. I was gonna try to contact them to see if they still had it anywhere. If I find it, I'll let you know.

Hello!

Sorry I vanished earlier, but I was blindsided by a 2 hour "customer service" training. Before coffee, no less.

Horrible!

I have enjoyed Escher's work.

Having my cousin's kids-to-be pose on top of a monkey-bar bridge while I shoot lying on the ground does have that sort of effect...

Makes me remember how many *not* fun things I have to look forward to with any job I happen to get.

Orientation, periodic training, irritating customers, bad weather days...

Heh...and then as I'm tying that, Ray Charles comes on the radio singin' "Busted". *sigh* Considering the alternatives...I guess I can live with stoopid training.

Oh joy :)

"The World's Great Operas in 10 Minutes" or summat like 'at...

A humorous ddescription of the plot lines from Aida, Il Trovatore, the Ring Cycle, Tosca, more...with cutout animation and wry humor. Cute-sounding girl narrates; it was her student film. A&E had it on a looooong time ago.

It's a neat pic! It reminded me of Escher's work...

Say, check out the Lego version of that pic!

That sounds like fun! I'm rather fond of Anna Russell's synopsis of Wagner's Ring Cycle. And Victor Borge does a good one of Mozart operas.

It's called "All the Great Operas in 10 Minutes". It is a hilarious short movie where the film maker uses Monty Python style paper cutouts to tell the story of the operas, giving a run down of the murders, suicides, rapes, incest, and walking talking statues from Hell (Don Giovanni). The film maker narrates the story lines in a somewhat bored voice that makes it even more funny.

ExGeeEye had it on his hard drive and graciously made a disc for me. The kids LOVED it, and Joseph is going to take it to school to see if his English teacher would like to show it in class.

You'll need a surrogate...

"Where's the foetus going to gestate? Going to keep it in a box?"

Anna Russell is a hoot. Really like her stuff.

Heh...I've seen Victor Borge's spoof, too. There was also one show where he had a soprano guest star on to sing a Verdi aria. He was just PAINFULLY rude to her - a joke, of course, but making fun of sopranos. It was hilarious.

And he called Guiseppe Verdi "Joe Green". Which I believe is about right...but man, it cracked us up.

I wonder if there are many Borge skits available on DVD these days? It'd be fun to have some o' those. Can watch 'em over and over.

I like the one where he composes a piece by cutting up different sheet music and pasting it back together.
