Wow, Ruthy! Lot's o change coming down the pike.
You'd have to be in my parents' shoes to understand. I mean literally they bent over backwards for years to try and accomodate these people. Literally. I mean, the choice of where we moved was dictated by wanting to stay within driving distance. The last time my mom's dad and stepmother visited, they criticized my sisters for not going to Ivy League schools, ignored the boys completely, and spent the whole time bragging on her cousins. My dad is angry with his parents for supporting his brother who left his wife and five kids.
I really ency people with extended families. I'm looking forward to experiencing one myself once my sibs and I start having kids. Cousins who will talk to you? Aunts and uncles who greet you in the grocery store? Grandparents who show some indication that they actually care? It sounds great. I guess you can't have everything though and I wouldn't trade my parents or sibs for the best grandparents in the world.
Well, at least not till we break the news about the converting to Buddhism thing. ;~D
Families are complicated... And I don't see them as optional, they just are... until they're gone.
Well, my family isn't optional. But sadly when I say "my family", what I picture are Dad and Mom and the siblings.
Well, I'm back.
That was both far worse and somewhat better than I thought it'd be.
I did indeed get lost. Very, very lost. For much longer than I thought possible. Half the roads in the area are closed due to construction, and my directions I had written out didn't work, and everything was all roundabouts and other closed roads, so I couldn't find any other way there. And then it took me awhile to figure out how to call anyone at all, as I didn't have the phone number of the place OR of the staffing agency that referred me. I finally found the staffing place's number in my received calls, though I was guessing - doesn't show up with Caller ID, and I didn't know if it was even work.
And then, the lady went through Mapquest to find me directions, and I got lost again.
I finally found a building that had the right name, sorta, and though it wasn't the right place, she was able to tell me where to go. By then, I was late, even though I'd driven down to be there nearly half an hour early. So I was holding back tears - there's almost nothing that is more humiliating than being LATE for a JOB INTERVIEW!! Especially due to incompetence.
So...I finally found the place. It's a GORGEOUS building...one of those kinda office buildings that are all glass and natural wood and stone. Really pretty. And new. And at first I thought I STILL had the wrong place as there were herds of what appeared to be college aged folks wandering around in jeans and t-shirts.
But it was the right place. They do casual Friday, turns out. They joshed me a bit because of havin' to be dressed up on a day they were all casual.
The interview itself...was weird. I got asked a few questions - kind of a quick run-down of my experience - but it was really, really fast. And I learned about what they do, but that was fast, too. And they chatted a bit about the places I'd lived, which didn't really have anything to do with anything, but was kinda nice. Didn't laugh at me for mentioning anything personal, which is what happened in the last interview.
But it was really fast. I didn't think to even ask about benefits. I just admired the building, chatted about the job (phone technical support for their software, mainly), and left. And they said they're hiring for two positions, wanted to know what shift I'd like best, and that they'd be in touch. Which sounds positive, I think. But the fact that it all went so fast...I dunno! I guess we'll see.
Fast is good!
And like I've said before... They know from your resume that you're likely qualified, from the interview they just want to know if they'd like being around you.... chit chat and small talk is sometimes a lot better for that than all kinds of contrived interview queries where you think you are supposed to sound profound. Good for them.
Sounds good, best of luck to you!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It's not quite what I was looking for (mostly call center work), and it's not IN Fort Collins...but it seems like a fun place to work. And that counts for a lot.
And the drive down is actually rather nice, if you can avoid going in circles for an hour at the end....
Yeah - next time you won't have to follow the same route to get there ;~D
It'd just be good for you to get something.... you can get something better later... perhaps even at the same place.
Hey! The place is nice, the atmosphere is casual, and you did something that's very hard for you to do, today. If they didn't ask you questions it's because your resume speaks for itself, and they aren't going to bother interviewing people who aren't qualified. If you didn't get lost, how long of a commute would it be?
And they understand you getting lost. Trust me. It happens. I'm sorry it was so hard but I hope it'll turn out well.
If I didn't get lost, and if I took the same route every time...I'm thinking it's maybe half an hour? Or a bit more if there's traffic? About that, I think...maybe a bit less. I'm confused at the moment...
What makes me feel really bad is that the staffing company said they'd call and let them know I was running late...but their call didn't come in until I was there, for some reason. So they didn't know WHY I was late until I got there. They seemed OK with it, though.
It's REALLY near the new shops and all. The place is a war zone right now. Later, of course...that may not be such a bad thing. The new shops, I mean, not being near a war zone.
Yeah...just to get a local place on my resume would be something. And if I like the place...they do have upper level techs and such, too.
Now to avoid getting worked up. I seem to do that each and every time I have an interview, and it just makes things harder if things DON'T work out.
Well...by your standards I think I did OK, anyway. I did a buncha asking about typical work procedures and the training they'd done and what the ticket system is like and stuff like that.
Guess I'll know soon. I'm just really afraid I'll be hopeful and then have hopes dashed agin. *sigh*
That sounds promising. Glad it wasn't a stresser of an interview. I'm pullin' for ya!
Must go primp.
If I'm lucky, I a) get the job, and b) get the seven to four shift. Get me home easily by five most days.
They said they'd be making a decision quickly. I should hear back early next week. But it sounded like they were only interviewing four or five individuals total for two positions that are currently open...though maybe that's wishful thinking.
Which led to
But not necessarily to
You really, really, really killed the thread.
Sounds like they didn't hold being late against you! Best of luck, and prayers are still going up for you!
