The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Didn't know you had roof damage?
My cell is 305-562-7704 in case we get another hit.
Although I am not taking it terrifically seriesly!

It's only missing a bit of shingles.

Nothing was strippped down to plywood though, so I'm OK.

My avocado tree isn't coming back though. We had it cut down to a 4-foot stump and righted it, securing it with 2x4s to keep it upright.

The coconut tree won't ever die, as much as we've wanted it to fall with every storm.

Statement as of 10:41 PM EDT on September 17, 2005

... Interests in South Florida should closely monitor Tropical Depression Eighteen...

The surface low pressure system located east-northeast of the Turks and Caicos
Islands has become better organized tonight and is now tropical depression
18. The system is moving west northwest around 10 mph. This system is
forecast to move across the Florida Straits from late Monday
through Tuesday. Its effects across South Florida are yet
uncertain but residents across South Florida are advised to
monitor statements issued by the National Hurricane Center and the
National Weather Service office in Miami in case watches or
warnings become necessary later on Sunday. This system is forecast
to reach hurricane intensity as it moves across The Straits.

It's probably going to get into the Gulf, God forbid, after popping So FL .

I'm typing dialup on my daughter's old Ibook and can't figure out how to post the tracking maps on this thing,. It's probably just as well.

Dang! If this keeps up and they make it to 'R', I'll have a hurricane named after ME. Never thought I'd see the day!

Pretty sure they're making it to R. Your name starts with an R!!??

Anyhow if it takes after you, it could be fierce!

If 18 becomes a named storm - and it almost certainly will - it's got your name on it. ;-)

They skip the Q.

I wonder if they'll actually run out of names this year. Eek.

Good morning!

I knew some time ago that I had been bumped to near the top of the short-term list, right after the neighbors who can take a couple hours, and to the top of the long-term list (up to 48 hours on weekends).
