The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I like pecan pie. Do you like pecan pie? Cuz I like having it once a year, at Thanksgiving, but a whole one myself will make me fat.

sigh* It's stoopid, but I'm still fretting about that left hand turn across traffic that I gotta make to get to this place.

You do know you aren't judged on how fast you can cross, right? Just relax, take your time, turn only when it's clear. :~D

Heh...like I said, there are almost no pies I don't like. Yeah, I like pecan pie a lot.

Last year someone on FR posted a really, really good recipe for pecan pie...used some bourbon in the syrup, and lots of butter. It was beyond great. Made that for my family, and though it wasn't super pretty, it only lasted about a minute and a half. ;-)

Heh...yeah, I suppose that's not gonna factor into the job interview.

Like I said, it wouldn't bother me so much, but there's no turn lane - it's one of those deals where you have to pull into the middle. We really don't have any of that back home. It just seems *wrong* somehow. Better than having a bunch of people behind you honking because you're turning out of the one lane of traffic and it's taking you awhile, but...

You're assuming it was written by a man :~D

LOL!! Being that's it NO, you can't be quite sure!

I just like the recipe out of the red-and-white cookbook. Made it last year, shared with two guy friends, I got a piece and a sliver and they ate the rest. Now that was nice to see.

The middle ~is~ a turn lane. That's what it's for :~D

I've usually just used the recipe that's on the corn syrup bottle, but I figure if you're gonna make something rich, might as well go the whole way. So when I saw that recipe...I had to try it.

Wonder if I still have it. It was marvelous.

There's such a thing as too rich. Normal pecan pie almost is too rich for me.

I left my lunch on the table, didn't I? Could you put it back in the fridge for me, I guess I'll have to go out for something today.

Lard is better than Crisco, right?

For sure. And it's the best thing for biscuits and pie crusts, in my very, very limited experience. Also like putting some in refried beans if I have it on hand.

But it's been awhile since I bought any.

Sure, as long as you're in town anyway today. There's plenty of fast food places on this side of town we can choose from.
