Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Good morning everyone!
My DSL still isn't working, so I'm computer-less at night. :-(
And, of course, I uninstalled AOL before the hurricane hit, so now I don't even have dial-up. *smacks forehead*
I'm hoping that the DSL will be back online tonight. Otherwise, I'm going to call BelSouth and tell them not to DARE bill me for August!
I'm glad to hear that pretty much everyone has checked in safe and sound. I've been praying for those folks in LA/MS.

Yeah, DSL should be back by now, call 'em and harass.
Whoo-hoo, got my paycheck and it's just slightly larger than usual 'cuz I got some extra hours this summer. Means I might end up with a little in savings after I pay all my fees for the semester.

So the book you found there turned out alright? :~D Yes! It was some British murder mystery written in the 20's or 30's (can't remember who the author was) that was just frightfully riveting! :)

I'd read that using Bounce with towels reduces the ability of the fabric to absorb water.

Well good! :~D
Perhaps I should check it out! And here I thought he mostly sold bad romance novels over there. :~D

I am still watching news 12 out of Jackson. They just repoted that a man in Hattiesburg was murdered over a bag of ICE. He was shot in the head.

I'd read that using Bounce with towels reduces the ability of the fabric to absorb water. Or even those fabric softener sheets. "These towels sure feel soft, but they don't dry me!"

People can be such animals.
Is it time to build the Hobbit Hole compound yet?

There were some romances there. Last time I picked up a Michener that was pretty good...Space I believe it was called.

I bet that's so...it feels oily on the sheet. Maybe I'll skip the towels. I only have two Bounce sheets, but I cut them in half.
I don't buy it...I like it ok, but won't spend the money on it! LOL!
It'll be novel for a while, though...Joshua is sitting here with his face tucked in the neck of his shirt smelling it! LOL!
Sheets! I'm gonna wash sheets and use a Bounce!
Hehe...I've got piles of clean laundry everywhere now...

Hattiesburg is pretty bad. It is about 130 miles inland, but the damage is as if they were on the coast. They are 100% without power as well. I cannot imagine ever being *that* upset over a bag of ice.
To: Peanut Gallery
I had nightmares over this last night...I dreamed I was trapped in an attic with the jedis with water rising.

But 2J, you'd have gotten out long before the storm hit. I know you. Dreams aren't rational, of course, (heh, don't ask em what I dreamt last night) but... don't worry about that during the day, ok?

I'm not surprised. When faced with severe conditions, people sometimes just lose their damn minds!
Do you have a link to this streaming video? I haven't seen any pictures from H'burg, and I cannot reach anyone because the phones are down.

H'burg got the high winds and torrential rains but since it's not on the water, didn't get a storm surge. There are still some low lying areas that could have flooded if the Leaf and Bouie Rivers overflowed their banks.
I saw the owner of Mary Mahoney's, a landmark restaurant in Biloxi, interviewed this morning. He stayed there, and ended up on the second floor of the building watching the water rise. He said it came up to and almost into the windows, and the windows did break from debris floating by. He said the most unusual thing he saw was a pelican floating by on top of the water. The main building is still standing, though it was gutted. The newer area in the back was just washed away. He pointed to the oldest building in Biloxi that was just behind where he was. It was built in the early 1800s and was still standing!

Breaking local news... A marina on fire in Gig Harbor is a total loss. This is not the marina Ramius's sailboat is at... but his boat is one or two docks over from this one. It's not hurricane-bad in terms of scale, but in the Harbor, this has the potential to be a real mess, and a real loss of some expensive boats.
