The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'm working on our support group newsletter. Ugh...I've never done a newsletter before.

I need some Rolaids.

If I took a regular digital picture (not high res, or super hi res) and cropped that picture down to 1 and 5/8ths inches square, how many pixels is that?

Second family member accounted for! SirKit's sister is a Business Continuity Specialist for a large bank in MS. She's just now back in her office in Jackson. The power had been restored to that area of downtown, but they may have to leave again because the water treatment plant is down. This is the real acid test for her since it's her job to figure out how to get the bank's operations back up and running smoothly!

Replacing dumb terminals with point-of-sale PCs at a chain retail store. As usual, the contracting ageny underestimated the time/manpower needed; the supposed 8 hour job took nearly 12. Went in at 8:00 pm last night, dragged myself home at 7:30 am this morning... from the time I arrived I didn't sit down until about 6:00 this morning, we were that busy.

My feet and back are vey sore.

It depends on the software you're using, and the resolution (dot-per-inch) setting of the image. Is the newsletter to be printed out on actual paper, or is it an online thing?

Sounds like a job for Advil, and a long soak in a hot bath, though where you are, a tepid one may be more comfortable!

I may soak my feet later!

Am glad to read that more of your relatives are making contact. The disaster is going to get bigger before it gets better, I'm afraid.

On an actual piece of paper...but this is something different...I'm also trying to do up another pictorial directory.

How do I find dot per inch in my program? I'm running "Photostudio 2000 SE".

I managed almost 3 hours of sleep this morning. I'm kinda punchy. I find it difficult to sleep during the day though, when I need to.

Time for a kitten break.

I don't know, I'm not familiar with that program. Uhm, does it say on the image properties? Uhh, and I don't know how to display the properties either...

LOL, I'm afraid I'm not very much help!

I dunno the program, but if the image is saved somewhere on your computer and you can get to it through My Computer or My Documents...if you right-click on the file, click on properties, then go to the Summary tab and click on the "Advanced" button, it will tell you how many pixels high and how many pixels wide the image is.

Does that make any sense? Eek. I need to work on my skillz.

Ok...what's this mean...the picture is

Width: 640 pixels
Heighth 480 pixels
Resolution 200 dpi

See, it's full picture and I want it to only be the person's face, a picture about 1 and 5/8th inch square. You know, I want to cut the face only out of the picture.

Just changing resolution isn't going to automatically crop the picture. The program should have a crop feature of some sort that will let you select the portion of the picture you want (probably with the mouse) and then cropping everything else. Or some programs, when you select crop, you can then drag and drop the corners of the image to where you want them, and it'll trash the rest.

It's really hard to say without knowing the program, though.

OK... what software are you using to make the newsletter?

When you say the picture is 1 5/8 inch, how are you measuring it?
