That was a God-incidence.
This area is about 6 miles west and about 1/2 mile south of SirKit's brother's Parish. We still haven't heard from him, but will try again first thing in the morning.
Meant to ping you to the previous post so y'all could see the video footage of the storm damage, though Corin knows all too well what hurricanes can do.
I saw some pictures from downtown Biloxi that looked like tsunami photos ... a couple dozen cars all jumbled together with tree limbs and other debris.
And this was a "near miss."
We got this place about nine months before gnad got out of the Corps...when it came time to leave the Corps, it was Vey stressful...vey...we started doubting if it was a good decision to move to this place, being completely unknown to us. My good friend said to remember how God brought it all about (it was amazing how He did it, but that's another story) and stand on that promise. Well, we got out here and just the beauty of it brought the stress level down. Then God said "Hey, look, I've got this really great homeschool group all ready for you...people come from all over to go to it" It wasn't an audible voice or anything, but it was Him reminding me.
If He called you there, there is a reason...you know that. It will be ok.

I'm really struggling with my pride lately
Ahhhh....pride.... :-)

Heh...G'nad has an interesting little story about when he was in the big sandbox the first time around. He was down to his last pair of socks, and took them with him to the shower late at night...the kind of night where you can't see your hand in front of your face. He used his compass to find the shower that was quite a distance away. After he showered, he couldn't find the socks. "God, if you are there, help me find my socks". He was walking back and felt his foot step right on them. This was before he was walking with the Lord...I think God just wanted him to know that He was there...knocking on the door to his heart...
Ok, I gotta start my day...

Before I go, gnad goes in for his MRI this morning...it's been 7 years. Won't find out the results for a few weeks because the insurance is still working all that out.
But, for those of you who pray...
Thanks,
Mrsnad
(worked a one-shot, all-nighter contract job, just got home a while ago, now I'm going to bed...)
Oooh, yeah, we'll keep you guys in prayer.
Prayers headed up and out for everyone this morning. :-D
I need coffee!
The 'near miss' was for New Orleans which ended up to the west of the eyewall. The hardest hit was the Bay St. Louis/Gulfport/Biloxi area because those were on the eastern side of the eye; the area with the greatest wind and water concentrations. The distance from the farthest city, Waveland, to Biloxi, is only about 40 miles by road, max, maybe 15 miles as the crow flies, so it's all one area in storm terms.
As the storm approached, the water from the Gulf was pushed ahead of it, and that's why they had 22-25' or more, storm surge in that area. It's the same area that was damaged in Camille. In that one, the bridge that spanned Biloxi Bay buckled, like the one over Escambia Bay in last year's Ivan. I haven't seen any helicopter footage of the Gulf Coast. They are showing the flooded New Orleans neighborhoods, but nothing else at this point. I'm going to keep the TV on, just in case. SirKit's brother's Parish is just north of the RR tracks, and he was sure he'd be high and dry, but we read that the water went over and past the tracks in some areas, but that CSX line runs all along the coast, so we don't know just WHERE the water breached it. It sounds like the area of Biloxi where I-110 comes down from I-10 to Hwy 90 might have been affected by the storm surge the most, but we can't tell.
We read on a Coast Blog last night that the superstructure of one of the Casinos had come loose and floated across Hwy 90, coming to rest on the other side. I guess they'll have LAND based casinos now! Now, I know just how HUGH those suckers are, so that must have been one big a$$ wave to move it!
I'll let everyone know as soon as I hear from anyone in the family!
Prayers going up for g'nad. I'll put him and you on our Parish Prayer list!!
So have y'all gotten power back at your house? Obviously you have it at work, I remember your saying you had LOADS of stuff to do.
Prayers on the way.
Will be praying.
Prayers for your family and friends too Suzi.
Good morning!
Sorry about the break down yesterday. I'll behave today. ;-)
It has to be frustrating for so many people that the coverage is really focussed on NO when so many other places were hit hard.
Let us know if you hear from your family! I'll be praying.
