Super Secret Guilty Pleasure Foods (vanity)

Most of us take pride in the fact that we have some knowledge of proper nutrition and diet. Many of us run, bike, or do other vigorous exercise to maintain or college figures.

But there are some foods, often discovered in our youth, that no matter how nutritionally worthless they may be, are just too darn tasty to give up.

We may not tell our friends and loved ones, and we'll hide them under the other groceries in the supermarket, but somehow these guilty pleasure find a way into our gullets!

So without further adieu...

Top 5 Guilty Pleasure Foods

5. Velveeta Cheese. Who knows if there is any dairy product in this stuff. But darn it tastes good smothering nachos or melted on a toasted cheese sandwich!

4. Chicken in a Biscuit. The perfect cracker to compliment Velveeta. It's good to know that MSG and powder made from dry chickens can be so addicting!

3. Vienna Sausages. Though these little gems are not likely to show up as an appetizer at a fancy party, give me that yummy taste of Mechanically Separated Chicken and pork over cavier anytime!!

2. Sardines. Something about little stinky fish in a can turns off alot of people. But the fond memories of camping trips eating these oily creatures on a saltine cracker....

1. Hot and Spicy Pork Rinds. I know these delicious fried chunks of pig fat made a comeback during the Atkins craze. But some of us never abandoned these carnivorous treats! PETA be damned!

I have always prided myself on being fairly disciplined in the food department (and that was my first mistake, LOL!), but recently, I reread Janet Evanovich's "Ten Big Ones", and she was telling the screamingly funny story of a woman who was on Atkin's and was pre-menstrual, so she went a little crazy and held up a truck with Frito-Lays and Cheez Doodles. She kept hilariously describing how this character looked with all the cheez doodle dust on her face, in her hair, on her hands, and I just started thinking. . .hmmmmmmm. Cheetos? Hmmmmm.

So, I have rediscovered a Cheetos craving from my misspent youth (and the neon orange fingers tip everyone off), and will admit that VERY greasy regular Lay's potato chips are a guilty pleasure also, as well as a carb-watcher's nightmare. And chocolate probably deserves its own category. . .chocolate mousse, hazelnut truffles, amaretto truffles, and those little chocolate "ice cube" squares you can get in gas stations.

Okay, I'm officially craving now, LOL!

Almost anything I can dip a tortilla chip into works, or going to Trader Joe's and getting a variety of "off the wall" cheeses, salamis, and wines. :)

My husband and I both love sardines, with saltines and cheese. We also love peanut butter and dill pickle sandwiches. Lately my indulgence has been artichoke and jalepeno dip on crackers. My all time favorite is pizza!

Vienna Sausages

No. No way, no how.
Our crew had to subsist on those things – and little else – for close to a week when a mission was extended after we ran out of rations. Fortunately we had a pallet of the things from cargo. The consignee didn’t want them.

Am I going to get in trouble if I post something snobby here?

I love four of those, but the little sausages in a can are horrible. They're not fit for livestock feed. There's a frozen variety that doesn't suck quite as much as the canned ones, but even then, they barely qualify as food.

I sure feel silly saying no to canned Vienna Sausages but yes to pork rinds and Velveeta, but oh well, there's no accounting for taste.

Mayfield Moose-Tracks ice cream with absolutely any topping. Troyers Farms salt and vinigar potato chips back when they used to put too much salt and vinigar seasoning on them. "Country Sweet" chicken wings. Cigarette-butt and lye stew, covered with a smattering of axle grease.

Okay, I'm kidding about the ice cream.
