No specific topic this week. Just a few things I learned over the past week.
Mayor Richard J. Daley (Chicago) was a Republican. Just long enough to be first elected to political office. Excerpt from wikipedia.
Born near Chicago's south side stockyards in 1902, Daley was the only child of blue-collar Irish-Catholic parents. After attending Catholic schools (where he learned clerical skills) and night school at DePaul University (where he earned a law degree in 1933), Daley spent virtually his entire adult life in city politics. Although Daley was always a Democrat, he was first elected to the Illinois legislature as a Republican, but this was a matter of political convenience, not partisanship. In order to replace Republican David Shanahan upon his death, Daley switched parties long enough to be elected to serve out his term and, immediately after the election, returned to the Democratic party. Daley suffered his only political defeat in 1946 when he lost a bid to become Cook County sheriff.
The days before booze and smokes for votes.
Interesting technique to thwart telemarketers. When you answer the phone, say hello in a foreign language (except Spanish). A real person will be confused and say hello; a telemarketer computer will hang up.
Can you hear me MEOW? Can you hear me MEOW?
New York Yankees not finished. New pitcher just signed to 4 year, $50M contract.

Oh, that's great! All I get is a fat raccoon in my gazebo shaped one at night!
You should try to get a photo!
Thought about it, but it's at night, and all I can see are the eyes. By the time I get close he's outta there.
Is he close enough for your flash to light him?
You should check out stuffoncats.com
Oops, it was stuffonmycat.com (drat)!
Actually I probably could, but would need help getting it on here---are you volunteering? :-)
Absolutely! I'll make you proud of your photographic skills!
Thanks--OK, now, which end is it I look through
Depends on what you're looking through.
Or at! :-)
