No specific topic this week. Just a few things I learned over the past week.
Mayor Richard J. Daley (Chicago) was a Republican. Just long enough to be first elected to political office. Excerpt from wikipedia.
Born near Chicago's south side stockyards in 1902, Daley was the only child of blue-collar Irish-Catholic parents. After attending Catholic schools (where he learned clerical skills) and night school at DePaul University (where he earned a law degree in 1933), Daley spent virtually his entire adult life in city politics. Although Daley was always a Democrat, he was first elected to the Illinois legislature as a Republican, but this was a matter of political convenience, not partisanship. In order to replace Republican David Shanahan upon his death, Daley switched parties long enough to be elected to serve out his term and, immediately after the election, returned to the Democratic party. Daley suffered his only political defeat in 1946 when he lost a bid to become Cook County sheriff.
The days before booze and smokes for votes.
Interesting technique to thwart telemarketers. When you answer the phone, say hello in a foreign language (except Spanish). A real person will be confused and say hello; a telemarketer computer will hang up.
Can you hear me MEOW? Can you hear me MEOW?
New York Yankees not finished. New pitcher just signed to 4 year, $50M contract.
Good morning Petroni! Sam Katt with his latest toy. (I rescued it and set it loose in the woods again. Hopefully this southwestern lizard has learned his lesson and will find a rock to get under next time)
"What did you do with my lizard??!!"
"That lizard is long gone, Sam."
"Let's head for Crawford, forget the lizard."
Cute pics! I love the fluffy black cat.
Kitten update! Tomas, my "don't-get-between-me-and-my-food-bowl" 22-pound orange tabby, has "adopted" one of the kittens. Tori runs downstairs with him when its time for breakfast, and he lets her share his food.
I'm hopeful Phoebe will adopt Chloe, the more sedate kitten, but so far her attitude has been "Hisssss! Get off my lawn!" The kittens just laugh and scamper away when she does that.
Once my little calico came running into the house, crying, with a lizard attached to her upper lip. That lizard wasn't going to let go for anything. I had to squeeze its jaws to remove it from her lip.
You'd think she'd learn, huh? Nope. When I leave the pet door open for her to access the back yard, she'll bring several lizards a day into the house.
You want to have the vet check for tapeworms if you take your cat in for a regular check-up. Lizards have tapeworms and pass them on.
The regular Frontline etc. doesn't have the medication for tapeworms. You have to get a special pill.
Sam gets his pill (gaaaaackk!!) about every two months or so.
The kitty with the sun glasses and beads on is darling. :o)

That's a great picture!

[Freepmail me to get on or off the Kitty Ping List.]
I just gave away the last two kittens - sniff... I thought 5 cats was too many.
But now I feel like driving over to the people that got them and demanding them back.
The other cats miss them too. It's awful quiet around here now...
:-(
They are all cute! Thank you for the ping!
