Tonight's Sci-Fi Listing (08/19/05)
08/19/05 | Kevin Davis

Posted on 08/19/2005 5:01:15 AM PDT by KevinDavis

Here is tonight's sci-fi listing:

7/6 - Firefly. Again the sci-fi channel showing repeats of Firefly and showing previews of the movie Serentiy..

8/7 - Stargate SG1. Samatha Carter Returns!!!!!! Woo Hoo!!!! Last weeks episode was awesome. The priors are mean and can we really stop them? Also the Ori religion is very similar to a certain religion that we know.. If you get my meaning....

9/8 - Stargate Atlantis. The team finds a new powersource that threatens Atlantis. Last weeks episode was good.. The lesson was never deal with the Devil...

10/9 - Battlestar Galatica. They return to Kobol to find the direction to Earth. Well Caprica arc is over :( . It was kinda interesting to see what the Cylons had in plan for the human race..

I don't think I ever saw Cool World, Bakshi's never really been good on plot though so it wouldn't suprise me that it sucks.

See, I'm much more superficial (I say this without shame ;) The movies I enjoy, I couldn't tell you who wrote or directed or produced half of them. I was so hyped up to see SPIDER-MAN, and a friend who's also a comic geek said she wouldn't see it because she "hated Sam Raimi!" And I was all, "Who's Sam Raimi?"

And I never even read the LXG comics, so I had nothing to compare it to. :o)

I have one of those brains that gobbles up stupid and useless trivia. I don't try to know who directs and produced stuff, I just know. Given what a total comic book geek Raimi is I don't see why anybody wouldn't want to see a comic book movie by him, sure Raimi can be a little sketchy sometimes (Darkman) but he's got chops and knows how to get every dollar on the screen (something about being low budget man for so many years, he never wastes a penny).

That probably helped you a lot. Had I not been a huge Alan Moore fan to start with I probably could have watched LXG as just stupid cool fun (plenty of other movies I enjoy for that) but having read the books I just couldn't do it.

Sam Raimi directed DARKMAN? Huh, I didn't know that.

See what I mean? And I liked DARKMAN, too. :o) I suppose many folks can tell a certain director's style (I've had sooo many people tell me that Ang Lee effed up HULK), but truthfully, I've never much noticed. Even on TV, when I'd watch BUFFY and/or ANGEL, I'd hop online to my discussion group, and folks would be praising the background music, and I'd be, "What music?"

I suppose I could pick some directors out...if lotsa stuff explodes, it's Bruckheimer, for example. :o)

Raimi's big accomplishments before Spidey were the Evil Dead series, Darkman was OK in bits but it was just too much of a Batman rip off for me.

I've never been really good at paying attention to music in stuff unless it's source music. I almost never noticed the music in something like Buffy or B5, but I never miss the music in a Scorcese picture.

Yup that Bruck, but he's a producer, frequently with Michael Bay doing his directing.

From reading the thread so far, I seem to be one of the few who enjoyed the Caprica arc. Granted, it was too easily resolved, but it did set up some interesting problems for future episodes to tackle(Starbuck's mystery operation, Boomer's return). Although the show does eventually explain when things appear too easy, ie: why the cylons didn't follow the crew after ambushing them on Kobol.

There is something big going to happen. I enjoyed the Caprica arc also. Also they left the planet way to easy.. Granted it was in a stolen cylon ship, but they would have gone after.. They can't be that dumb..

They've already established it is supposed to be damn hard to track a ship through FTL, so why follow? Anyway, here's where they might find out they are all from Earth. Just a thought, but I think Earthlings colonized Kobol rather than vice versa. Cylons found Kobol, discovered Bibles and the One True God (the God of love who said be fruitful). Just my theory.

I must be the only person who likes the new Battlestar Glactica in its entire personna.

I guess because it protrays advancetechnology.. that does not appear that advanced.

I'll agree that for some part.. the stories are not comming on fast.. but I think from my perspective.. its because I want to see every momment come to fruiturition due to anticipation. LOL

Van Helsing. Ugh. Still more overblown CGI. Darkman-loved it. Thought Spider-Man 2 was better than the first one (same with X-Men). Anyone have any idea what MOVIES are on this weekend?

I do like Teyla on Atlantis..

I'll be interested to see what if any fallout there is from Michael and Evo dumping on SG Atlantis this week on the Slice of Sci-Fi podcast.
