Amazing. My team (Giants) are 16 games under .500 and are 7 1/2 back! Our pitching staff as a whole is among the worst in the NL, injuries galore (not including Bonds of course)....yet we're still less than 10 games out.

This division "race" is starting to resemble less of a "race" and more of "two drunks trying to punch each other in the parking lot".

As a local - I agree with everything you said.

Were you surprised by the departure of Woody aka Kurt?

Randy Winn hits for the cycle in his first four ABs in Cincinnati! More rare than a no-hitter, IIRC.

This bad joke called the NL West race is a perfect example of why, as long as divisional play exists, the wild card should exist. If the season ended today, and the wild card were not in existance, as many "purists" wish, the Padres, with a .496 winning percentage, would be in the playoffs, just because they are in a weak division, while the Astros, with a ,538 winning percentage, would not be in the palyoffs, just because they arbitrarily happened to be in the same division as a very good team.

If these "purists" want to keep the game the way it once was, why don't they focus on something that's seriously harmful to the game, like interleague play, not something that's just a break from tradition like the wild card.
