FR Baseball discussion thread: W/E/ 8/14

Posted on 08/15/2005 4:00:00 PM PDT by ken5050

Hi all..sorry for the delay..we had a violent T-storm pass through last night..lost cable and internet until a little while ago...Interesting week that just was..races are starting to shape up..some of the pretenders have given up the ghost, and we're gonna purge them from our lists. My Metsies are burnt toast..they had a very, very, VERY bad week..the collision probably keeps Beltran and Cameron out for the season..and yesterday, in a few pitches, Pedro went from a near no-no, to a big Oh NO!!..so..let's begin...

Schilling's back in the rotation.......

I expect we'll see the roster firm up considerably in the next two weeks as the postseason draws nigh.

Bosox are close to having the best record in the league -- and to second place in the division.

Could be a Really wild race to the finish, especially if the Tribe and Twinkies are series about joining in.

Oh, great job by Lenny and Bradford today with some help from shoddy defense from Edger Rentawreck.....

The facts are that the Sox bullpen is a disgrace and every time you defend them it exposes you for the paucity of knowledge that you possess

Didn't realize that. What was the score when ?? hit a grand slam in the bottom of the ninth a few days back?

Wow, what an "Amazin' Mets" game... PEDRO WUZ ROBBED! But congrats to the Mets on the win over the Nationals.

We won't speak of today's Red Sox game out in Anaheim... :-(

The ones you propose getting rid of are the best we have and have performed well. You may think it's a good idea to ditch Timlin & Bradford & Myers and go with Mike Remlinger, but my little friend you have serious issues that you need to work out with Eddie Andelman.

I admit I did take some perverse pleasure during that inning knowing that somewhere your head was exploding, ha ha ha!

If you score two runs in a game, pitching ain't the reason you lost -- not your pitching anyway.

Here's a fascinating thought for the morning..

NL race..assume that StL, Atlanta, and SD win the divisions, and that the WC comes from the NL East..( hey, they have FOUR chances at it)...That means that in the first round..Atlanta plays the Pods, and in case you hadn't noticed..SD is 5-0 against Atlanta this season..

Thats impressive.

I'm sorta leaning toward the Marlins for the wild card right now, and in a short series they scare me. The Fish are 6-4 over the last 10 games as is Phillie. The Stros are 4-6 after dropping one to Milwaukee last night. They look to be fadeing.

The Cards are 11-11 against the NL East.

$15M doesn't buy what it used to. A 4.34 ERA and an 11-8 record. So, the only thing more overrated than the ChiSox is the Big Useless, I guess.

Chris Widger, though, is perhaps the most dominant slugger of our generation, so Randy gets a pass for that at-bat...

4 games up...

He had no real offspeed stuff and he still did the job. I can only imagine how good he will be when he learns to throw a good split to go with either a slider or a change.

94 MPH FB strike one inside
95 MPH FB strike two outside (called)
Split finger in the dirt swung on and missed for the K.

Get used to it....

Hensen up on Tuesday....

Pap now has a 2.25 ERA. The Sox are 3-0 in his starts, though he has 3 NDs.

Did the mighty Oakland A's, far and away the best team and baseball (or so I've heard over and over) just lose two in a row to the Kansas City Royals?

His career HR total is impressive... at least it would be impressive if he'd hit 54 dingers in one year instead of 10....

The As have been cooled off for a while.

I could not be happier that the Red Sox aren't going into KC with the chance at being responsible for the Royals breaking the AL and the ML records for consecutive losses. Now, the Royals will get beaten soundly as the crappy team they are instead of fighting hard to keep the Royals out of the history books and scraping out wins against us.
