FR Baseball discussion thread: W/E/ 8/14

Posted on 08/15/2005 4:00:00 PM PDT by ken5050

Hi all..sorry for the delay..we had a violent T-storm pass through last night..lost cable and internet until a little while ago...Interesting week that just was..races are starting to shape up..some of the pretenders have given up the ghost, and we're gonna purge them from our lists. My Metsies are burnt toast..they had a very, very, VERY bad week..the collision probably keeps Beltran and Cameron out for the season..and yesterday, in a few pitches, Pedro went from a near no-no, to a big Oh NO!!..so..let's begin...

You mean Remlinger being designated for assignment by tonight? I wish...

These guys will be among the first to report it if it happens: Boston Dirt Dogs ;-)

Hey... Mets leading the Nats 1-0 in the ninth! :o)

Yankees leading the Chicago White Sox 3-1 in the fifth... :-(

Whoa, nice double play by Reyes!

You are right I thought remlinger would be gone. According to mlb.com Bellhorn is.

Yes, my husband was just reading in The Hartford Courant that the Red Sox are either going to trade Bellhorn or he'll be designated for assignment. Can't say I'll miss him. He was dreadful in AAA Pawtucket also from what we heard. We saw him there in one game as DH. He was 1-4 with one RBI that day. I was kind of stunned he actually made contact with the ball!

LOL... hearing lots of "Lets go Red Sox!" chants by members of The Nation in Anaheim now. :o)

Hubby and I can't believe Remlinger is still there either. He's shown absolutely nothing in 5 or 6 games...

Bellhorn... One of the 25, sigh...

I think the curse may have been transfered to the bullpen.

You need pitching in October.

Uh-oh, just up on BostonDirtDogs.com: For Whom the Bellhorn Tolls

Aw, I'm gonna miss seeing Bellhorn in the field (not at bat, though). But what can you do... the guy wasn't performing. He was given probably a month too long as it was.

yeah Timlin!!!!!!!

Take his failure tonight and toss in Myers' performance last night and I can really see how wrong I was to doubt your knowledge of what makes for a quality bullpen.

Yes, the two singles Timlin gave up were disastrous.

Clearly he cost us the game.

Oh wait ......

They keep using Remlinger in lopsided games to see if he'll act like a pitcher. He wasn't having a great year with the Cubs but nothing like this!

But I can't imagine he'll stick around after getting rocked yet again.

I'm sure they want to keep some folks at Pawtucket for the end of AAA season but I'd sure like to see Lenny DiNardo back up in the bigs.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com Huge win tonight. We stay 4 up on the Yanks (did I mention that the ChiSox are the biggest frauds in baseball?), and have a real shot at a split.

When July 6th came and Tito suggested Schill as Closer, I imagined 2 innings of no-hit shut-out ball with 4 Ks against our hapless opponents, and FINALLY we got just that.

This is the sharpest Schill has looked all year. Incredible. The Angels are a for real good team and they are a for real good offensive team, who were simply overmatched just as they were by Schill in the 2004 ALDS.

This could be huge if Schill has turned the corner. I'd written him off for the year as being a stud for us, but he may be recovering. I'd try giving him a day off between appearances to see if that will help him stay sharp.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com And Petagine's AB was phenomenal [/jim rome].

I'd be willing to have him start at 1B the rest of the month to see if he stays productive. Millar and Olerud after the 6th inning.

Pitch 1 - Ball (1-0)
Pitch 2 - Swinging Strike (1-1)
Pitch 3 - Called Strike (1-2)
Pitch 4 - Ball (2-2)
Pitch 5 - Foul (2-2)
Pitch 6 - Foul (2-2)
Pitch 7 - Foul (2-2)
Pitch 8 - Foul (2-2)
Pitch 9 - Ball (3-2)
Pitch 10 - Ball (4-2)

That's a thing of beauty.

Great post in #114. Yes, last night was a huge win for our Sox! Well worth staying up late to watch 'til the end (even my "morning person" husband made it through the entire game, thanks to a nap earlier). Curt looked fantastic! :o)

As long as Chacon stops with his Roger Clemens act. He could be the Yank's Game 1 ace in the playoffs as of now.
