These stunning cities of the past stand as clues to a mystery thousands of years old. I think he was using a little psychology. He probably figured that she was going to dump him for Steph, so he was "magnanimous" and let her know that he was a "gentleman" who was holding to his promise. Trying to make her feel "bad" if she dumped him. My one dollar psychologist summary.
