This week we are going to Watkins Glen International Raceway in New York. Please join us for a full weekend of racing.
Watkins Glen International continues a road-racing tradition that dates back to 1948 -- when sports cars competed on the streets of the village at the southern tip of scenic Lake Seneca. The circuit, which at one time hosted the F1 United States Grand Prix, has grown to become one of the most respected facilities in the northeast.
This is an impound race, all practice is on Friday, qualifying on Saturday (unless they change their mind) FRFL picks must be made by Saturday morning 2am pacific time. I will update the practice times as we get closer to Friday as well as adding the qualifying lineup etc.
Update on Coo Coo Per Jayski
LATEST on Coo Coo: Retired racing great Coo Coo Marlin of Columbia is hospitalized in serious condition, continuing his battle with lung cancer. The 73-year-old Marlin's son, Nextel Cup driver Sterling Marlin, has decided to skip tomorrow's race in Watkins Glen, N.Y., to be at his father's side. Sterling Marlin and his wife Paula returned home from New York at 2:00am yesterday when informed that the elder Marlin's condition had worsened. Paula said her husband was with his father yesterday and unavailable for comment. The family has requested privacy during this period. Coo Coo Marlin was the first Middle Tennessee racer to rise to national prominence, spending 14 seasons on the Grand National (now Nextel Cup) circuit. He never won a points race, but was widely respected as a hard-nosed, determined racer. He was also a farmer and cattleman before retiring. Sterling Marlin credits his father for instilling in him the qualities that carried him to two Daytona 500 victories and made his one of the sport's most popular racers. David Stremme, with help from Scott Pruett, practiced Sterling Marlin's #40 Dodge for Chip Ganassi Racing yesterday at Watkins Glen. Stremme, who is taking over the #40 Dodge next season, is expected to drive the car in qualifying today and the race tomorrow. Marlin has been working to secure another ride for 2006.(Tennessean)(8-13-2005)
There sure has been a lot of lung cancer deaths lately.
Hummmmm Paul Menard almost has a Jay Leno chin.
He says it's looking like rain, but the radar doesn't say that??
Stan Silva knocks out Elliot Sadler (forgot to mention that Rocket knocked out Scott Turner), puts Michael Waltrip into the show, and puts Paul Bonacorsi onto the bubble with a 116.576 (25th of 37, or 38 depending on what happened to Barrett; 9th of 16 field-fillers).
David Stremme with a 120.213 good for 32nd of 38 (or is it 39?).
Wally Dallenbach puts himself into the show with a 118.713 (13th of 39/40, 5th of 17 field-fillers). That knocks out Paul Bonacorsi, and puts Mark Green on the bubble.
Good job for Wally's World ala Mr Clean.
DJ just got into the show.
Regan Smith puts himself into the show, knocks out Mark Green, and puts Todd Souza on the bubble with a 118.105 (19th of 40/41, 7th of 18 field-fillers).
RYR will have one car in the show; Dale Jarrett turns a 118.906 (good for 11th of 41/42, and 4th of 19 field-fillers). That knocks out Todd Souza and puts Stan Silva on the bubble.
Tyler Walker with a 118.817 (12th of 42/43).
Crash Gordon just split the Evernham front row with a 120.688. That knocks out Silva and puts Ron Fellows on the hot seat with Kim Crosby and Jeff Spraker left to qualify among the field-fillers (Steve Grissom has a past-champ's provisional to fall back on)
Morning, nice look on the thread banners.
I am sooo ready for some mindless race spectating
anyway the fams puter is back and working well.
so we're present and accounted for
if I could just remember how to make XP look like the old winders
The Buschwhacking invasion continues apace as Brian Vickers turns a 119.940 (5th of 45/46). Truex and Lewis are the only non-Buschwhackers in the top 10.
Yes on Barrett, he put a lot of fluid down on the track.
Sorry I forgot to do my TV commentary.
Wonder what the big "Q" is on the 11 car's hood??
4 Geico car up now with Pruett
Mornin Pete, wondered where you were.
Ready for some road racing?
For the classic start menu, right-click on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen, select "Properties", click on the "Start Menu" tab, and select "Classic Start Menu".
For the rest of the screen, right-click on the desktop anywhere there isn't an icon, select "Properties", and select "Windows Classic" as the theme.
Bowyer, 2 car shifted to 2nd instead of 4th. OOps...probably starting from the back with a new engine.
Miss Vasserette spun and done.
Next car stopped that was already on the track, like what happened to Kerry.
Kim Crosby knocks herself out of the show and knocks Matthew Kobyluck in (Travis Kvapil got knocked in earlier) with a 87.749-mph lap. That last spot will be either Spraker or Fellows (Grissom has the champ's provisional to fall back on).
Bowyer would only lose one spot; he has 42nd locked up.
And the filler-field portion of the show is all-but-done as Jeff Spraker knocks himself out of the show and Ron Fellows in with a 109.813. We still have Grissom to go out to see whether he or Fellows will start 43rd, and we have Smoke left to see whether FastKasey can hold onto the pole.
Larry Mc and Co talking about the fuel mileage problem since there was no practice time yesterday. They will have to be much more conservative in both races with fuel.
thanks!
you save me, prolly hours of bumbling and looking...
LOL Smoke on track in the Old Spice car with his scruffy beard.
