Washington: Women who send flirtatious emails, wear short skirts or massage a man's shoulders at the workplace win fewer pay raises and promotions, according to a new study.
The study, conducted among MBA graduates by Tulane University, showed that half the respondents have sometimes engaged in some sexual behaviours to advance in their careers.
This includes crossing legs provocatively or leaning over a table to let men look down their shirts, it said.
But, interestingly, those women who said they have never engaged in sexual activities have earned an average of three promotions against two for the group that had employed sexuality, the study showed.
Those who said they never used sexuality at a workplace were, on an average, earning $75,000-$100,000 per annum, while the other half fell in the next-lowest range, $50,000 to $75,000.
The women in the study, the first of its kind, ranged in the age of mid-20 to 60 years, the 'USA Today' reported.
It was an attempt to make plain the negative consequences of such behaviour, the report said.
Academic experts have so far not studied the use of sexual behaviour in the work place.
After searching managerial literature, Tulane professor Arthur Brief found no evidence showing such behaviour to be effective or ineffective.
The Tulane study's findings are statistically significant to professional women looking for career advancement, Brief said.
Brief said the study goes so far as to suggest that women should even be careful about letting men open doors, because chivalry is "benevolent sexism" that advances the stereotype that women are vulnerable and weak.
go ahead. someone else did one and it was good
Big mistake.
Oooooh. Baby!
The bunny with a pancake on it's head? The bulldozer with a flattened Corrie? Etc...
But, I do love fine wine...
Love of fine wine, nekkid... nice combo.
If I get to a door first, I'll hold the door for the next guy right behind me rather than let the door hit him in the face.
Does that make me gay or simply polite?
The bottom line is that women are vulnerable and weak and, if men have no sense of chivalry, they get trampled on.
During my active duty Navy days in the 1980's, I was stationed at Naples, Italy and, while in Rome, I had to take one of the crowded shuttle buses to the Rome Airport.
Being unfamiliar with Italian Big City "manners", I was surprised to see an Italian girl, about 22 years old or so, simply pushed aside like a rag doll by Italian men trying to get into the crowded bus. The bus left, leaving her behind crying.
When the next bus came, I put her in front of me, all 6 foot 3 of me.
When an Italian man (regardless of their sexy reputation, they tend to be rather scrawny) tried to push her aside, I put out my arm and did not let him pass her. Instead of taking a hint, he kept pushing against my arm which did nothing but increase the pressure on his sternum.
American feminist decry chivalry because, with American men, they don't really need it.
If American feminists lived outside of America, they would be begging for the chauvinism they call "benevolent sexism".
Many think they are hot and sexy, but often today they have a gut hanging over their mini skirts, so they look like $4 hookers.
Yep, not gong to get them a promotion at all.
deinitely depends on looks, or alcohol, or both. ;o)
Maybe you're just a chubby chick magnet! ;o)
Sure. I'm thinking mo-ped for you! LOL
Raiders are going to do better than both of your teams!!
OK I am laughing too hard to type now, but I can try to hope.
Al Davis should have been in the funny farm the last 25 years!
Al pi$$ed someone off, we play the Pats on the Monday Night Football opener. We play the Eagles and Cowboys back to back. Al stepped in it somewhere.
Actually, I'm betting they go 10-6. They'll have a killer offense, and if they get into a shoot-out they'll have a chance.
Being a Raider fan for the past 20 or so years I am painfully aware of not getting super optimistic!
