The Twins also used to draw 3 million fans a year when they were winning world series rings.

The Yankees are just plain stupid with their dealings. They sign guys who are over 30 to long term contracts that are back ended. They gave RJ a two year extension and he's clearly on the downside, they picked up Jarret Wright who was a bad pitch from a lost season and they took on Kevin Brown who was past his prime.

Baseball is a business. There are also too many teams out there with bad business models and no fan support. Anyone can draft good guys, develop the talent and keep a guy for 7 years. If you think that he's asking too much you either trade him for younger guys or you let him go and get some draft picks.

By the way, baseball is not a huge attraction in FL. Too hot to watch games and too many other things to do down there.

The mix is wrong. Most people in South Fl are transplants or at the most 2nd generation, so their loyalties are with some other team. There are tons of Yankee fans there, retirees from NY (on another note, the area ranks 2nd in the nation for people who drive with their 'horns'--they honk at palm trees if they are moveing too slow, just as the NYC drivers do).

They are rabid Dauphins and college football fans though. Dan Marino is the second coming in South Fl.

The Indians still have about 20 games left against KC and Tampa Bay. The wild card is a real possibility, although I don't see them going far even if they were to get into the postseason.

Either you base it on stats, or you have to get into such a convoluted statistical analysis of each game pitched, against which teams that it become idiotic. Anything else is just personal preferences and voting with your emotions.

But of course your choice of which stats to use (and which to exclude) wasn't in the least based on personal preferences or emotions. < / sarc >

As sure as the sun rising every the morning, Cardinal myopia returns each season.

Actually you are wrong. I could care less who gets the Cy. It won't effect how the Cards do and is a vanity award until such time as guidelines are set down by MLB.

The same applies to the MVP. It is meaningless to the game, just an opinion poll.

Manny Ramirez wins AL Player of the Week honors for the 14th time-- an American League Record.

Minaya should have gone all out for him.

FYI.. I heard this on Chris Russo's show on WFAN in the car this afternoon. Russo, not exactly a Yankee lover, noted that as of today, the Yankees "magic number" to be elimated from the divison title is 50, from the wild card, 49.....

Psychologically, the Tribe has several factors in its favor...most important being that nobody expects anything of them..therefore there is NO pressure..and if the Yankees and Red Six focus on each other, and the A's/Angels do the same....well... what's the odds NOW in Vegas for Cleveland to make the playoffs?

Well said. What if Clem was left in (as Carp has more than him)? Would his ERA escalate?

To extend this, 'what if' Carp were removed from each game where he pitched the 'leagal # of innings' and had no runs scored? Wouldn't his ERA go down? Would it help the team or just elevate his personal stats?

Has Carpenter won the Cy Young before? Personally I feel that both he and Clemens are deserving, but Carpenter's edge in the win column and IP category would prompt me to favor him. And I know this isn't a legitimate factor, but if he never won before I say share the wealth. Clemens already has a cabinet full of them.
