Word For The Day,. Friday, August 5, 2005
August 5, 2005 | Argh

Posted on 08/05/2005 2:04:23 AM PDT by Argh

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of four "Words for the Day".

1. habromania

Noun: [from Greek words habros meaning graceful or delicate and mainesthai to be mad]:

a kind of insanity during which the delusions are of a cheerful character

2.quackle [onomatopoeic]

to choke or suffocate

3. uranism [YUR-en-ism: from the Greek Urania, another name for the Greek goddess of sex and love Aphrodite. This is what my 3-volume Webster’s says. I thought Urania was just the Muse of astronomy. Then there was the Titan Uranus who was the sky god and first ruler. He was the son of Gaea, who created him without help. He then became the husband of Gaea (why the complex is named after Oedipus, who at least didn't know he was marrying his mom, instead of Uranus, is beyond me, but I digress) and together they had many offspring, including twelve of the Titans. His rule ended when when Cronus, encouraged by Gaea, castrated him. He either died from the wound or withdrew from earth.]

a homosexual condition especially when involving physically normal males

4. Friday word:

souteneur [pronounced soo-ten-EUR, from French sustenir to support]

A type of pimp, a man who cohabits with a prostitute, lives off her earnings, and often solicits for her - also called cadet

Example sentence:
Souteneur: think Bill and President Hillary.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using one or more of the Words for the Day in one or more sentences.
The sentences must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

If you ever wanta rut
Look at any baseball player's butt
They swing those balls, and then they grow
Which makes Miss Slippy glow.

Miss Slippery's poem for the day.

Did you know that there was a merchant ship (back in the Civil War) that was named "Coquette"?

There was also a time when we had a WFTD tomorrow. Remember, Bella was soooooo busy, she would post the WFTD the night before. We all appreciated it, though. Tough time for subbies.

Makes Slippy spastic.

No, I did not.

Cyber's testers are called "The Flying Dutchman," "Marie Celeste" and "The Screamer." The Screamer name had already been given to the tester.

Ghost ships are the other ones. Sometimes they become ghosts.

Any ships named "The Croqs"?

When I left my customer's house 34 miles away it was lightly raining, and as soon as I got on the highway, I ran right into a huge storm with thunder and lightening and all that stuff. We are still under a thunderstorm and flood alert, but I AM going to light the grill as soon as hubby calls when he turns onto the park road-I'm hungry for steak, and rain is not going to keep me from fixing them-that is why grills have covers...

Thanks for the link. I followed the article links to Brit Hume's Grapevine--thereby getting my USDA RAR of hunky conservative common sense commentary...MMM.

I am on one of those strange FNC free diets whereby I keep my marriage but lose my sense of reality...

nursing moms...Touchy is better...

Yes, and touching other adults rarely leaves one with either calluses OR thrush...but there are some exceptions...

with no a/c

This is where I myself begin to calculate the affection/comfort ratio on cuddling. Even the sweetest of men become over ripe on occasion...

xshub is very cuddleable, don't get me wrong, but we are just not big cuddlers, for whatever reason. xsbrownie doesn't care how hot it is, she is pressed up against me wherever we are : ) bc i know the years where she will want to do that are fleeting, i never push her away ever.

Dilbert doesn't like FNC

Have you ever wondered where the idiots are that actually support NPR?

When my eldest son started contributing funds to the household, I made him responsible for the cable/internet bill and the car insurance bill, along with a little cash towards groceries. For my birthday, he wanted to upgrade our cable back to receiving FNC. I said he could do that if he wanted to, but it wouldn't be my birthday present, because I had worked it out with Dilbert that we wouldn't have CNN or FNC in the house. (We live in Florida, imagine us after the 2000 elections.) Thanksgiving was HELL!!

I told my #1 son that he could take his sweet graying haired mother out to dinner instead. I am still waiting for my invitation for this hot date...

You have "inadvertently" given me an ear worm.

I hear singing and there's no one there
I smell blossoms and the trees are bare
All day long I seem to walk on air
I wonder why
I wonder why
I keep tossing in my sleep at night
And what's more I've lost my appetite
Stars that used to twinkle in the skies
Are twinkling in my eyes
I wonder why

You don't need analyzing
It is not so surprising
That you feel very strange but nice
Your heart goes pitter patter
I know just what's the matter
Because I've been there once or twice
Put your head on my shoulder
You need someone who's older
A rubdown with a velvet glove
There is nothing you can take
To relieve that pleasant ache
You're not sick
You're just in love

I have (disgustedly) been so busy at work today that I had no time to freep. I am now responding to everyone at once a la Slippy.

I have looked at this "Liz" character and she apparently uses the word "diddling" in everyday conversation. I suspect she may in fact be one of us--even if she is NOT Robt's soul-mate...because that position is filled. (Please, no double entendre's on position...or filled...or diddling...or mate.)

ah, a sports poem...

The Gators in this region,
are setting up a squawk.
They want to see the Seminoles
Reduce the trash talk.

Without Cheif Osceola,
They think that we will balk.
No PC jargon EVER saved
A Gator from the tomahawk!
