Top 10 cartoons (of all time)

THE INFAMOUS CARTOON Southpark is entering it's fifth season of mayhem. This inspired a heated debate over what is the best cartoon ever. After the dust settled this is the list that survived:

10) Smurfs- The childhood cartoon that was filled with miniture blue uhh... smurfs. Everyone has seen this bizzare yet uplifting show

9) Sponge Bob Square Pants- A small yellow piece of foam that recently exploded in popularity. His face is appearing on everything from boxers to bowling balls. Bob, a character that lives in the sea, experiences crazy adventures with his underwater pals. Even older audiences will find the bizarre humor funny; it seems as if either a genius or mental patient created this cartoon.

8) Batman- We all remember from our younger days the caped crusader who kept Gotham City safe. With an arsenal of cool gadgets, the best being the Batmobile, he kicked bad guy butt. The Batcave is also the coolest hideout in superhero history. This cartoon also spun off into a series of major motion pictures.

7) Scooby Doo- Yet another memorable cartoon from our childhood days. Whocould forget Scooby and Shaggy's antics as they searched for the same evil villain in the same haunted house week after week, only to have Fred unmask the monster at the end of each episode? Their comic capers will go down in history as a model of how to create a great cartoon.

6) Popeye- This little spinach eating man with his stick thin girlfriend Olive Oil is a classic. The old black and white versions have been around since 1929. One of the most unlikely heroes, Popeye has found himself in many a jam, only to pop open a can of spinach and prevail time and time again.

5) Loony Toons- Everything from Bugs Bunny to Wyle E. Coyote falls in this category. Warner Brothers hit the jackpot when they created this slew of characters, which have entertained America for years, as well as being marketed all over the world.

4) Flintstones- As first cartoon to ever be in primetime, the Flintstones set a precedent for a new generation of cartoons. It would not only entertain children, but adults as well, with a new style of comedy. Fred, Barney, Wilma, Betty, and Dino continue to entertain generation after generation.

3)Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles- One of the most popular cartoons of the 90's. These pizza loving genetically altered turtles battled the evil Shredder with martial arts taught to them by their leader Splinter, a giant rat. Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo, the turtles, became an icon producing an action figure line that continues to this day, and three major motion pictures.

2) South Park- The foul mouth foursome known as Kyle, Kenny, Cartman, and Stan has, for better or worse, undoubtedly changed cartoon history. Where else can you watch a towel get high, or Kenny die a hundred different ways? It has been the most controversial cartoon ever, with its nothing's sacred attitude. It launched a movie that was, of course, rated R. Few can't admit this cartoon is hilarious.

1) Simpsons- Who else could crown such a list? This dysfunctional family has entertained America for over a decade and shows no signs of stopping. Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge and Maggie along with the town of Springfield revolutionized the way cartoons are viewed. With humor geared more toward adults than children the show stormed primetime fox becoming one of the most popular shows ever. The show is everywhere from action figures to classes on college campuses. It is hands down the number one cartoon ever.

Jay Ward Studios was the creator of Rocky and Bullwinkle, George of the Jungle, Dudley DooRight (RCMP), etc.

They were known for as much as their corny puns (the Indian tribe that raised apples and, after a drought, sponsored a car race known as the Appless Indian 500) not to mention their many double entendres.

Anime sucks hard core. They dont even have an interesting story line and the young girls in the show look like they were drawn by pedophiles.

That being said, any list that puts Bugs Bunny not at number one is flawed. BB rules. Pinky and the Brain? AYPWIAP? I think so Brain but where we find 2 ducks and some duct tape this time of night?

Speed Racer. Foghorn Leghorn. Scooby Doo and that whole genre of drug induced cartoons are not allowed on my TV, not because they are drug induced, but because they suck! Fairly odd parents Grim Adventures of Mandy and whoever are good recent ones. Spongebob is ok, but the movie SUCKED!

Cartoons I TiVo, Simpsons, Family Guy (LMAO funny), Futurama.

To mention a few more: Transformers, Johnny Bravo ("Hey there, mama. You smell kinda pretty. Wanna smell me?"), Reboot, Mac and Tosh (WB's answer to Disney's Chip and Dale), Frankenstein Jr., Atom Ant, Secret Squirrel, Top Cat, Sonic the Hedgehog (which disappeared shortly after the Oklahoma City bombing, for some strange reason...), and a couple of old ones done with puppets, Fireball XL5 and Captain Scarlet.

I NEVER, EVER, EVER watched 1 episode of Captain Planet or Pirates of Dark Water!!! EVER!!!

I'd put Woody Woodpecker and King of the Hill on the list and dump the Simpsons and Batman!!

Keep Simpsons and Batman and dump Spongebob Square pant and bevis & buthead!

Add Mighty Mouse, Jetsons, and these guys:

Some of my opinions about some random cartoons that I've watched many times in the past and some that I've watched with my now 12 year old daughter:

Spongebob - Genuinely funny for kids and adults. And no, it's not "gay propaganda".

Spiderman (the cartoon from the 70's) - Entertaining, but only for kids.

Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids - Not really entertaining for anybody, but taught kids values. "The Brown Hornet" was a bonus cartoon within a cartoon.

The Simpsons - Best cartoon ever. Itchy and Scratchy is a cartoon within a cartoon that is a parody of Tom and Jerry.

Speed Racer - The first real Japanese animated cartoon in America. I hated it as a kid and I've recently seen it on DVD and hate it more.

Rocky and Bullwinkle - Brilliant satire and parodies and just plain fun.

Beavis and Butthead - Completely lacking in anything of value but I still laugh my butt off.

Tom and Jerry (the original ones) - Many of them are no longer shown or are highly edited because of the PC police. For example, Tom's owner is an obese black woman with an appearance and voice of a stereotypical "southern Negro housewife" and they usually edit her out or even re-dub the voice.

Super-friends and the Justice League - It was drivel from Hanna Barbara, but as a kid I never missed it on Saturday morning.

Scooby Doo - Five teenage hippies drive around in a VW Micro-bus. In EVERY episode, Shaggy and Scooby always stroll off by themselves and show up later with unquenchable munchies. Fred and the two girls run off to "explore" and "look for clues" by themselves. If it were any more obvious what what the writers' inside joke was, they'd all have bloodshot eyes and Fred and the girls would be sweaty and out of breath while emerging from the bushes.

South Park - Immensely funny, but the purpose of this show is to offend those that the creators believe deserve to be offended. They really skewer the leftist Hollywood crowd and they're very good at making them look bad.

Powerpuff Girls, Cow and Chicken, Johnny Bravo, Jimmie Neutron, The Fairly Oddparents, Grim Adventures - These are examples of some of the better newer cartoons that I've seen that kids are watching on cable now. Each of these contains enough material that appeals to adults to keep me watching.

Clutch Cargo - Creepy to the point of sickness.

Duck Tails - Very high quality writing resulting in a funny and always interesting story for kids and adults.

The Smurfs - F*** The Smurfs!

Oh man, nothing beats Pinky and the Brain.

"Do you know what I'm thinking Pinky?"

"Right Brain, but how do we get the monkey into the rubber pants?"

Aargh! No kidding! Product driven animation.

We avoided Pokemon from ages 3-almost 9- we did not have cable television, so he only saw the cartoon if he was visiting someone who had it. We ignored it, but the cards were just a nightmare. I saw the cartoon when we were on vacation and told him it was beneath him ("you're too smart for that" ). He was 5.

I refused to allow the merchandise for a long time, partly because of the violence associated with it - meaning kids were getting beat up and shot in some places over the cards. Ridiculous.

When he was around 8 or 9 (about 2000) he started getting the cards, and my brother in law would send the very cool Japanese versions of Pokemon things to him so he had the 'best stuff'.

Mr. Ant, how could you possibly overlook Rocky and Bullwinkle, Boris & Natasha, Dudley Dooright, and Mr. Peabody and the wayback machine?

Maybe he wasn't wearing the Kirwood Derby?

Not only should Family Guy be on the list, but I will go out on a limb and say someday the specific episode titled "I am Peter, Hear Me Roar" will go down as one of the funniest comedy episodes of any TV show, along with the I love Lucy candy eating episode.

Its the one where Peter has to go to sensitivity training and finds his femine side. I taped it and everyone I show it to goes into convulsions laughing, especially when Peter tries to breastfeed Stewie.
