Last night, many of us read the thread wherein Petronski announced his coming marriage to madame Cyborg. (Check DRUDGE: Unnamed Senior White House source: Cyborg and Petronski to be married...). During the course of the Cyborg-Petronski Thread, the subject of a Free Republic feature wherein single Freepers can meet their fellow conservatives.
I have a simple proposition. We could start a regular thread akin to the Freeper Canteen. Such a regular thread could serve as an opportunity for single Freepers to engage in Virtual Mingling. Also, any Freepers who have single, conservative offspring would be welcome to participate so as to arrange for introductions for their kids.
Special note to Jim: Just think of how many conservative would not have met fellow right-minded folks had it not been for FR! Cyborg and Petronski owe you one.

I'm really good at saving. I live right on the waterfront, under a bridge. Low overhead means it's easy to squirrel away three, four bucks a week for a rainy day. But she sounds like a gold digger so I want a pre-nup.

Not in the least. This is just an idea that has been discussed several times. I just figured that it was time to stop discussing it and follow through. There are a lot of single conservatives here who are looking for like-minded folks. If FR can bring them together, then all the better.
IMO, threads dedicated to mutual bottom-sniffing ;-) are probably less effective means of picking up dates, than to hang out on a silly thread and flirt shamelessly. Most of the FReeper couples I've heard of have met that way.

Well, I hope for it to be more than "mutual bottom sniffing." FR has several subgroups that have a overall theme but the topic of conversation doesn't always pertain to that theme. The Canteen, for example, has had discussions that do not necessarily relate to the armed forces, but people with a similar interest gather there. I am thinking of the same idea here. The overall theme is to get the "are you hitched" question sussed outright. Then, let the socialising begin. I have heard some FReepers lament that they have flirted with someone in a thread only to have that person say, "I'm married." The plan is to cut through such problems via the overarching theme. The discussions in the thread can be on any topic that the participants desire to cover.
