You might look at used (or maybe new) turbo-Diesel Excursions. Between the low prices of new vehicles and high gasoline prices, there could be some good deals on vehicles coming off two year leases (though at 25K mi/yr you'd have to make a bet that oil prices will eventually come down).

I bought a new Econoline in 1982 when gas prices were high as were rebates on "gas hogs". Worked out OK as oil prices did eventually fall.

My biggest problem with a diesel is that I live in a state (New Jersey) where diesel fuel is more expensive than gasoline.
