Dumbledore was baffled by the meeting, since Voldemort (a/k/a Tom Riddle) plainly knew that there was no chance that Dumbledore would hire him, and Dumbledore knew that Riddle knew.
Maybe he just wanted the employee discount for a new GM?

LOL!
Good one!
But he must not have got it since he cursed the job.
LMAO BWAHAHAHAHA!
LOL!!!
I don't think so, but this is all speculation on my part. In Slughorn's memory, Riddle was wearing the ring, but (I assume) he did not, at that time, know how to turn an object into a horcrux. At some point, IIRC, DD mentioned (or at least supposed) that Tom/VM made horcruxes from significant deaths--at least, that's what I remember. I know DD made it clear that VM chose the objects which would become horcruxes based on their significance. The death of Tom's father would certainly have been significant; I believe that it was that murder, and the resulting "splitting" of Tom's soul, which enabled Tom to eventually make the ring into a horcrux. Again, all speculation. All we really know about the creation of a horcrux is that it requires an act of murder--that much has been specified by Slughorn.
Thank you I'll be here all week. ;-)
That'll keep me thinking for the rest of the day!
I think you have to do a murder in order to split the soul for the Horcrux. They never mention the timing needed to store it somewhere. I think you have to just know the spell or whatever to put it in something. Not sure though.
Yeah I know, they are listed in my post 716, but Voldemort is included to make 7 which is the most magical number.
Somehow I lost this thread and had to do a search to find it again. This thread has 6977+ views!
cool....
Boy! I got into that discussion over there in that
Harry Potter vs. the Lavendar Mob. What a mistake!
There's nothing worse than closed minds voicing
religious bigotry.
Are there portraits of the founders? I thought
the portraits were of former Headmasters only.
If all the former teachers were also depicted,
the many Dark Arts Teachers would be hung
on the walls!
No, I don't. So sue me.
"I just don't think Harry's scar is the horcrux. I think the entire person or creature would have to be the horcrux, not just some physical feature of that person."
That said, what about Professor Quirrell being used
by the parasitic Voldemort? Both were able to function
independently despite V's having ensconced himself
inside Quirrel. When Quirrel died, V left to find
another host.
Re Regulus Black. Most Freepers are convinced that
RAB is Regulus. I'm not knocking that suggestion...
but I sure would like the A of RAB explained. I can't
make heads or tails out of that one, so I'm holding
out for there being someone else in Book 7 with those
initials. Just to throw a monkey wrench in here! <>g<>
There was an article posted somewhere in the last 50 or so posts. The writer thinks that since it takes 2 people to get to the locket, maybe the initials are that of 2 people. Regulus and someone else? When I first read the book, I thought that maybe they were Amelia Bones' initials. RAB would work for Regulus and Amelia and the B from both their last names. However, they couldn't both go in the boat, I don't think, unless one was underage. Of course maybe the 2 of them only measured as one great wizard even when combined. Someone thought That Kreature was with him because he would probably not register as a person in the boat.
The one problem with Black being RAB is that Hermione should have discovered that when she checked. There should have been a record of his middle initial. That means that he would have given himself a nickname, like "Avenger", that he started using, which in this series seems to be a regular occurence.
Now if Amelia was actually a middle name, would Hermione have discovered her first name started with "R", but it wasn't used? Probably, official records would list the given name.
So it's likely a full or partial pseudonym.

We checked and found out that Amelia Bones' middle name was Susan. If RAB is more than one person, it could still fit. Or it could stand for Regulus And B-----. B for someone's first name, Kreacher wouldn't fit, obviously.
