I see how that could be argued. But, my thinking is that Tom Riddle was a student when he asked about the Horcruxes and he had asked about the number 7 specifically. I find it hard to believe that he would have not had all 7 Horcruxes made before the night he attempted to murder Harry. I don't think Rowling would throw an 8th at us by some mistake of Voldemort's death curse and inadvertant transfer of powers, etc.

That would make for quite a book if Harry turned out to be the Horcrux because in order to defeat Voldy he would have to kill himself or be killed by someone but if he is killed than there is no one to kill voldemort which means that evil would prevail and i doubt J.K would do that to everyone. That'd be awful if they killed off Harry

if Harry is the Horcrux they will find a way to extract it out of him without killing him hence he can finish off Voldy

Quick correction: only six Horcruxes (ouch, that really, really ought to be Horcruces) and the seventh bit stays in Voldie. I just don't think Harry is one, either.

I do believe that Voldemort did plant a Horcrux in Dumbledore's office when he went for the interview.

Doesn't a horcrux have to be made at the moment of a killing? Or do you think Voldemort had the horcrux object with him and somehow just hid it in the office? It couldn't have been created there, I don't think. I am still wondering about the Sorting Hat, which belonged to Gryffindor, but I think it is unlikely. I also have been wondering, does anyone know how Harry's parents and Neville's parents "thrice defied" Voldemort, per the prophecy? I think Dumbledore says only they were in the Order and had escaped three times.

I just don't think Harry's scar is the horcrux. I think the entire person or creature would have to be the horcrux, not just some physical feature of that person. As for the article, I don't think Hermione's failure to research Regulus Black is significant. As far as I can tell, Regulus was not a well known wizard; why would he even show up in the books? I can't recall if Hermione is even present when Sirius mentions his brother to Harry.

Hmmm... could be that Slughorn's thinking of someone but I'll bet you ten Galleons that R.A.B is Regulus Black, Sirius's little Death-Eater brother.

I think it was in OOTP when they were taking a break from doxie killing when he mentioned Regulus. Hermione was there, but I don't think she was involved in their conversation.

We're all going to hell, you know. The 300-page "Harry Potter is Satan" threads tell us so.

Right, it was when they were trying to remove the tapestry from the wall. It wasn't clear to me if Hermione was part of the conversation, though. I think I'm in the minority, too, in not thinking the locket at Grimmauld Place is the horcrux. It sounded like the horcrux locket had a pretty clear serpent on it, obviously marked as Slytherin's. Hard to believe that if that were the locket in Grimmauld Place, the only description would be that none of them could open it.

Couldn't be anybody else. All the facts fit, including Sirius' comment that "he got in so far, and found out that you couldn't back out."

What it tells me is, Harry's going to have to go back to No. 12 Grimmauld Place in Book 7.

I agree that it is Regulus. To me, the big question is who helped him? Does not look as if he could have done it himself, does it?

Yup. That is, presuming good ol' Mundungus Fletcher didn't steal and sell the Horcrux.

I have been wondering if Sirius won't make an appearance of some sort in the future... his story just seems so horribly unfinished.

Kreacher! Kracher helped him, that's why he's so off. Maybe Regulus did a memory charm on him so he doesn't remember, but Kreacher would have done anything for Regulus, he was the "good son". Even drinking evil potion.

That's an interesting theory! I try not to think about Kreacher more than I can help, though. The interesting thing about your idea is that Kreacher might have been able to use the boat as well without "registering" as a wizard, as Harry did. I have heard some people speculate that Kreacher hoarded the locket, too.

I was half expecting Dobby to die in the most recent book. Glad he's made it okay so far.

Yeah, that's the word on the street. If it's okay with the Potter Ping list I'm not going to ping the list to those types of threads anymore.

I started a Potter ping list because it was fun to talk to other adults about their theories or share a bit of information or just excitement over the latest book/movie. I was really thrilled to find out other FReepers like HP.

Those threads usually refuse to die (like Voldemort) and are pretty easy to find if people want to engage in the "debate" (term used very, very loosely).

If I want to hear about how I am a horrible person and going to hell I'll call up my mother in-law. ;-)

Precisely. Plus it's someone who's devoted to Regulus, but who wouldn't happen to mention to a member of the Order, "Oh, we took this little trip and found this cool locket, think it means something?"

By inference, whoever helped Regulus (assuming he didn't find some way around the potion all by himself) is dead, because neither Voldy nor Dumbledore knew the Horcrux was gone... dead, or not important enough for anyone to listen or talk to... like a house elf, especially a nutty evil house elf who's been sealed up by himself for years.

Good question. We don't know how long ago Regulus died, but it had to have been pre-Harry. However, the contents of the note make it seem like RAB must have taken the locket post-prophecy.

Dumbledore apparently didn't know RAB had taken it, so I think it's safe to rule out Snape as the accomplice, unless Snape kept it secret from both Dumbledore and Voldemort. Could he have? (The Slytherin tendency toward self-preservation, plus a new appreciation for just how powerful Snape is, suggests "maybe.")

I'm open to anything. I think JKR likes to throw us off track sometimes by putting little things in there like the locket at Grimmauld Place.
