This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
That looks very painful. So the ferrier builds him a shoe to raise it up?
I wish I knew what this storm is going to do. I have a get prepared feeling. Only one model shows it here but the others are slowly shifting. I need to go to Walmarts but I feel like crap. I think it's viral but my doctor sending me a RX for antibiotics for 2ndaries. Maybe , I'll just give Brian a list and see if he will go for me.
As far as I know, he was born that way. He was like that when I bought him and I knew it would be a challenge to keep him sound. I was willing to take the gamble.
He uses a regular egg bar shoe with a pad to elevate the heel.
Heck I have to take those. You want to know what my choices fo electives are? DRAMA, ACTING and MUSIC.
Those are the three humanity elective choices I can choose from.
I don't feel like doing it today but I will get those pics of Sarah Lee this week. I really would like you to tell me what you see that I should avoid. I figure with all the knowlege and experience here we should be able to blue print a "perfect" baby lol
Yes, check your email. I took your photo and made a calander.
It wasn't required way back then:')
Do you have a pic of an egg bar?
It's just a full circle shoe, shaped kind of like an egg. I bet you've seen them but I'll see if I can find a pic.
Do you have trouble keeping those on. We had a horse we shod with that type of shoe, and he was forever losing them.
Becky
He used to lose them all the time until I started him on a biotin supplement. After being on that for a few months, the shoes stayed on.
Glad it was an abcess he could find and drain. I'm sure that relieved 90% of the pain right there.
Good luck with the right kind of continued farrier work. It's hard to know what to do, it seems like knowing what to do seem half science and half voodoo sometimes.
I think Harley would step on them pull them if he ever wore such a thing.... Any horse that overstrikes, for that matter.
Has he still got his one pad on?
The horse we had them on had a big stride too. It was a roping horse of Charlies.
Yes, Harley still has that pad. I was going to call Chris the end of this week and schedule him to come back and reshoe him again to get that pad off. The timing is just not working out good tho. I want the pad off and also see if he can get him to stop kicking himself (again). But the date of the next ride is Nov. 3-4. Soooo.....do I shoe him now and then again 10 days before, or wait till my regular appoint which would put it about midway between shoeings for the ride....Still trying to figure out what to do. What would you do?:)
Becky
Yahoo:), Mack got the AC going....We really needed it too, the heat index is 105 today.
Becky
It would be good to pull the pad, so his sole can harden on that side. But I wouldn't trim him again, I'd wait till his regular appt.
The ride being midway though his cycle seems about perfect to me.
