They cut the summer short. Kids will now only have 2 months summer vacation.
School will now finish at the end of May and start back up first week of August.
Supposedly this is because they need more time because of F-CAT testing. My argument is that if they were teaching the kids correctly to begin with, they wouldn't need an extra month to prepare kids for the test.
Man, it was so hot and muggy out there this morning. Blech!
This particular school has no parent parking area, so folks had pulled their cars up on the sidewalks and swales. The security fellas were telling folks to move their cars, but no one paid any attention to them.
It was a complete ZOO!
I hate it. Is it too much to ask for some common courtesy and manners?
That's just wrong. I mean, when do they get to be kids? They're in classes all day long and probably bored out of their skulls, at the very least you can give them summer.
Although I did love my mother's way of giving us two weeks off school every couple months, it meant we got summer and spring and fall and winter. But never snow days.
Just got an email from my dad, and he talked about having to start this week too... but I'm not sure if students were starting this week or if this is the one-week prep time they get. But they do have a week vacation in October now. So there's that.
Amen, sister!! They spend so much time these days on fluff stuff, (and I don't mean art and music) that they don't make the time for teaching the basics, which is all any of the standardized tests actually cover!
