Does your school offer low-cost health insurance to students? I did that while I was in college, but I don't know whether all schools have that.

Also, you could look into "catastrophic" health insurance (not sure if that's the technical name of it). It's the kind of insurance that has a very high deductible that doesn't pay for routine expenses like checkups, but will kick in in case of accidents or serious illness. While I was in Southern CA, I looked into it and there was a policy that I could get for about $29/month that had something like a $2,000 deductible. Especially if you are biking a lot, you really should have something. Also, check into whether or not your car insurance would kick in if you were in an accident on your bicycle. That way, at least you'd know whether or not that was covered.

Not that I expect you to get in a biking accident or anything! :o I've not had much trouble myself, but it's always important to have that covered...

I do get it through school and technically it is "low cost" but... it's still more than I can really afford.

Of course a high deductable like that would still wipe me out if something went wrong but it's be manageable...
