The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I was given interview advice in the past to not wear open toes to interviews. Dont' know if it's good advice or not. I guess at least some folks think open toes are too casual. Just a thought.

Do you primp for interviews?

I primp for meetings when I'm on travel. On the night before I do a clay mask and manicure/pedicure while watching silly TV shows I never get to see at home.

Grrr....so far I dunno if I'm even gonna GET an interview.

Still haven't been called. I did finally get the letter today and it included the guy's contact info, so I called, but only got voice mail. I left a message, but...

And the letter says I'm supposed to ensure we make contact by the 26th, or I won't be considered. Says if I haven't been called, I'm supposed to call him. OK...but does voice mail count?

I guess if I don't hear back by noon tomorrow or so, I'll call again. I'm just half afraid they'll interview someone before me and hire them without my getting a chance. Yes, I'm paranoid. At this point, wouldn't anyone be?

It'd be good advice for me, because I have ugly feet no one wants to see ;~D Otherwise, I think what's appropriate depends on the level and formality of the position and the company. If it's for a very casual position or company, it is possible to overdress for a position so much that they can't picture you in the job. I advised clients to try to look like the others in the position look, or at least no more than one notch better.

I once roasted Peeps over a decorative candle.

that's pretty twisted.

They were good! It was a challenge, get them close enough to roast but not so close that the sugar burns.

I work with a gal who is a militant PETA-type vegetarian. Won't eat anything "with a face." That includes peeps and chocolate bunnies.

She's also very sickly.

True true. Speaking of gals I work with, She-who-needs-ritalin has been getting fashion advice from an Army officer. She has to brief a big brass and the officer who has been working with her team is *mortified* that she'll show up in one of her day-glo outfits and trampy shoes. So he's been leaning on The-calming-influence (one of WHNR's team members) to tactfully pass the word on that Gen. So-and-so doesn't do hot pink. I need popcorn on days like that. ;)

Ok, post TDY trip-report.

Alas, DC. Always an adventure. Took me three hours to get home this evening and two of those were spent creeping around the DC beltway. Ack!

Anyhoo, Ft. Belvoir is a *beautiful* post. Lots of history. Lots of Brass posted there and lots and lots of fancy cars. I don't think I approve of so many public servants zipping around in Jags. Maybe it's just me, but if you're going to live off the taxpayers you can at least drive a humble car.

But I'm happy to be home!

Back to NM on Monday! *sigh*

That's just crappy, Ruthy!! What do they expect all their employees to do if the storm worsens while y'all are doing the payrolls? It seems the world won't come to an end if the payrolls are delayed by 36 hours.
