The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!
Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Let them go! Let them go!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

The Girlfriend's thing is spendy up front. From what I understand, you pick from their menus. They do all the shopping, as well as the slicing and dicing. You go in and put it together.
But you have to buy so many meals at a time. It's about $3.00 per person, per meal. Not bad when you break it down, but at a single shot I think you have to spend $200-300.
Wife had a friend who was writing a "meals for a month" book. If she ever got it published, and if I can ever find a copy, I'll send you one.

That's the problem with the cook for a day deal...it's a big investment in one pop. A brisket, you know...$30. But it comes out like you say...cheaper per meal and the convenience is another thing.

We're going to Japan next week, and our plan is to arrive at the airport two hours before our flight leaves. We don't have to do the Customs thing til we arrive in Tokyo anyway.
The last time I flew, I was going to MS, and my flight was scheduled to leave at 6:05am. I arrived at the airport at 5:30 am, checked my bags at the curb, stopped at the bathroom on the way to the gate and STILL had to wait at least 10 minutes before they started loading the plane.
That's the closest I've ever shaved it though. I'd been giving myself at least an hour the last few times I'd flown because those TSA folks have been on the lookout for fifty-something fat women who must be terrorizing the skies. I'd been searched and even frisked the last four times I'd flown! This last time, no one even bothered to check my backpack. I guess the portable tape player and air cleaner didn't register as suspicious. ;o)

Omigoodness. On one of her earlier trips through BWI, my poor, sweet, little mom got bullied and browbeaten by one of the locals.
She was sitting at one of the SW Airlines gates and stood up to stretch. The lines at the cattle gates were building and were near where she was sitting. When she stood up to stretch she said to no one in particular, "Oh, I've been sitting for so long."
Well the lady in line nearest her took offense. "Do you have a problem with me standing here? Because I will tell you you aint cutting in the line. I don't care how long you been sitting. Blah Blah Blah"
The woman was huge and horribly intimidating. Mom was too scared to cry. Mom is now under orders to 1) not make eye contact with *anyone* or 2) talk to *anyone* in BWI. She's not allowed to smile or be her usual southwestern cheerful self till we get to the car.

Hey Darks, did you know they're renewing Dr. Who? I read about it last week, but can't for the life of me remember who's playing the newest incarnation of the Dr.

Had heard dark rumor about it.
Had heard dark rumor that they are 're-envisioning' it as well.
Not sure if that is the case as I'd heard that some time ago.
So if there is any newer info...

Made it to Hood River! They had our rooms ready so we checked in early. They've got a hiking trail that I'll check out at some point in the day. Need to get some laundry done too before I leave. Not sure what we're going to do next.
I'm thinking salmon for dinner tonight.
