The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!
Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Let them go! Let them go!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I just hate mentioning money at all. Seems indelicate.
I'm at least doing a lot of thinking. I doubt allll of these questions will be asked, but I'm hoping not to be quite so caught off guard. I know I did pretty lousy in the very first interview I did out here - the Data Doctors one. Repeated myself a lot.
C'mon phone! Ring!

I forgot my Windows password. I've already forgotten my new Windows password. It's on a post-it note taped under your desk.

Maybe, but after the way she's treated me, I wonder.Good point! It would also point out that it's not 'personal' towards you, if she lives by that philosophy herself.

"What did you like least about your last job / employer?" Don't mention pay. Tell them that, while you loved (or at least liked) the job and what you were doing, that because it was in a relatively remote location your opportunities for career development (don't say advancement) and even social interaction were somewhat limited.
That's why you relocated.

To begin with, I try not to dwell on such things, so I tend not to remember 'em. That's a good answer! Shows you're not the type to hold a grudge, and that makes for better working conditions for the people around you.
I'm SERIES! I never liked working with people who continually b*itched and moaned about our co-workers.

I might forget where the post-it note is if I put it under the desk. On the monitor is better.

"What did you like least about your last job / employer?" Um...not easy to answer. To begin with, I try not to dwell on such things, so I tend not to remember 'em.That sounds like a good answer to me!

That sounds good!
Ya know, the questions that I'm most dreading are the situational ones. I hope this will be a more traditional interview...but the last ones I was asked things like "Describe a situation where you had to deal with a really difficult user, and explain how you handled it." It just feels like gossip to repeat stuff like that. Makes me really uncomfortable. I suppose that's silly since I'd likely vent here and to co-workers, which is worse, I guess. But it just seems really negative.
I had a LOT of questions like that during the last few interviews, and I KNOW I didn't handle them with panache. I just felt odd about detailing any such situation.

It's on a post-it note taped under your desk. Er, that's a series security violation for us. Vey vey vey vey bad.

Quite often in interviews I get asked why I left my job in 1996 to take a contracting position. My usual answer is, "The contracting position paid me twice what I was making at my previous job." It usually gets a laugh.

Shhh... don't remind her. We admins get a kick out of changing peoples' passwords and making them think they've forgotten.

I've got new troubles.
A woman on the BA CHEF egroup is trying to post an invitation to the members of our egroup to an event that the Other Group is putting on. Now there are 47 members of our egroup, and I suspect many of them don't know what they're going to do. Every one of them have the new group's egroup invite.
Anyway, I wrote her back and asked her if she was trying to organize a joint event and said she would have to notify our leader and the leader would notify our actual membership (not the egroup.)
She wrote me back saying she'd made a mistake.
Another "oops". Yeah, I bet.

Nope. We call ourselves The Remnant. Out of 150 some odd women, we have 17 members. I know of more that are planning on signing up...that was just the ones that signed up at the spur of the moment meeting we had last week. The regular meeting is September 13th.
I don't know what will happen then.
They could just go on and leave us alone, but they won't...we're a thorn in their side, a reminder that they did wrong. And they are constantly trying to undermine us.
We just stop them at the pass. Like this woman trying to invite our egroup to their function. She'll have to follow the proper channels and she'd rather just say "oops, I made a mistake" than do that.
