The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Heh, ours are definitely NOT weekend projects! This one will likely be a five year project from beginning to very end. The next big thing that's gonna drive the neighbors nuts is that SSQ is gonna build a geodesic dome to cover the job site so that he can keep his tools out and ready. He's gonna fit it out with winches and stuff for raising and lowering engineered beams, sheets of plywood, etc. It will make the job go faster because we won't have to be delayed because of the rain or snow. He's converting Gimli and the big concrete mixer from gas to electric so that we can use them inside the dome and won't have to worry about ventilation of the nasty exhaust. These things are like big puzzles to him and he loves figuring them out!

With that coverage and being able to go out and work for an hour or two each night and not have to continually drag tools back and forth, we hope to have the addition blacked in by next year. After that, we can take the dome apart and sell it to someone else doing the same thing, or maybe a builder who'd like to have something like that to make his cold weather work more tolerable! We first read about the dome in the "Journal of Light Construction". A builder in Southborough MA had done just that and had no problems working through the winter on a big addition.

Houston, we have a new Freeper! Sir SuziQ registered on Free Republic tonight. The screen name he originally wanted was taken, so he's SirKit.

Hi Sweetie! (Not you, Ramius)

A not too obscure pun, I hope.

Thanks for the warm greetings. (Not you, SuziQ.)

Using "Sir SuziQ" as a screen name seemed a bit too much like being known around the parish as "Susan's Husband."

Love ya! (Not you, Ramius.)

SirKit had a question. How would he (in HTML) make a long dash to separate two parts of a comment. For example, in his tagline, he wants a long dash instead of the three short dashes. How would he do that.

He went to bed, but asked me to ask you that before I headed up myself.

I've gotta take a nap for a couple of hours before I have to drive David to the airport. He's headed back to the grad school grind, and we prolly won't see him again until Christmas. He and Clare are on their way home from Boston right now. They had located an arcade in Somerville that had DDR Extreme, Guitar Freaks and a couple of other arcade things they wanted to do. They left the house about 7:30, but got themselves horribly lost on the way over using MapQuest instructions. They had driven around for almost an hour before calling home for help. I got in from a meeting at 10pm, and SirKit was on the phone reading directions to them from the arcade's website.
Hope they make it home, ok!

It will seem strange with just the four of us in the house again after having the older guys home for the last three weeks.

MORNING HOBBIT HOLE! I just got back from taking David to the airport and am waiting to wake SirKit (Sir SuziQ's new FR screen name) up so he can go to work and I can go to bed! I napped for a couple of hours before David got me up at 4:15 to head out. We finally left about 4:30, and got to the airport about 5:15! His flight left at 6:05, so he had plenty of time. That early in the morning, there's almost NO ONE at Logan. It's a great time to fly out. I haven't heard anything from him, so I assume he got off OK.

I'm keeping you in my prayers for your interview. I hope it's today so your concern is not prolonged! I'm also praying that you're the last candidate interviewed, and they offer the job to you when you're done!!

Good morning! Happy Monday, fwiw.

Thoughts and prayers for you, Rosie! Make them wonder how they survived without you for all these years!

Mornin'

Met with the personal trainer at 6:00 a.m., then took Jr. to football practice. Most mornings once we get started I'll just go on to thegym to do the treadmill, then to work.

One good thing, so far, from football. The handbook has the NCAA GPA and SAT scores necessary to play college sports. Jr. said "I need tutors in math and Spanish." Keep your prayers crossed.

Rosie, we'll be prayin' today.

Welcome SirKit. I categorically deny anything they've told you about me.

Frankly, I did it for her kid, but I'll never tell her so. That little boy needs my son. He's just a child and I can't see breaking off all ties with them and hurting him when he had no control over what his mother did. He would be absolutely friendless if it weren't for Matthew and although Celeste teaches them that we have no earthly best friend, I don't think that's how Christ intended us to walk through this world.

Sometimes it might seem like it was planned
For you to roam empty hearted through this land
Though the world turns you hard and cold
There’s one thing mister that I know
That’s if you think your heart is stone
And that you’re rough enough to whip this world alone
Alone buddy there ain’t no peace of mind
That’s why I’ll keep searching till I find my special one

Two hearts are better than one...

Celeste teaches them that we have no earthly best friend,

Interesting. And kind of twisted. Explains a bit, I think.
