Home is behind, the world ahead, |
You keep saying that... I don't think it means what you think it means...
Evening all. :-)
Evening! We did the Mt. Rainier loop today. Long day, but man was it gorgeous up there.
Certifi... what? What is this "certification" of which you speak? :-)
I'll have you know that of of the fourteen, err... uh... sixteen people in my group, *none* of them got hired because of certs. Some of them have them, but that's not my fault. I used to be proud to say that nobody in my group had a Comp Sci BS and nobody in my group had an MCSE. But that's recently changed on both accounts.
Not my fault. :-)
Hey, there's nothing wrong with having a CS BS, you know.
Hey there... how was traffic up there? I just heard from somebody today that traffic up to Paradise is really thick.
Hard to get hired nowadays without one.
I know. :-)
Well, there was plenty of traffic, but I wouldn't call it "really thick". No problem parking at Paradise, either. Weekends may be different, though. That's why we decided to go on a weekday. :)
The South Park marathon is starting now... gonna hit the couch.
G'night, all!
Just wanted to remind you that some of us resemble your remarks :-)
Did someone call for CS BS?
Did you see My Big Fat Greek Wedding? "OPA" (or something like that) was what they'd all yell when they were kicking back successive rounds of Uzo, and in the process, got the prospective in laws totally soused.
Oh Bear, you GOTTA see that movie!! You and Rose would just LOVE it!
Don't ask a child a question to which you may not REALLY want an answer!
Don't keep fretting about that. You have not misrepresented yourself. You didn't say that you were CERTIFIED, only that you had gone through the training. Who knows? Maybe this employer will pay for you to take the tests to get fully certified. He's saving money by not having to pay for your training.
You'll do fine on the interview because you have a whole passle of people praying for you!
I don't doubt that, and I'm sure I've been operating with some blinders on at some level. I don't mean to say that any of it is worthless. Of course it is all valuable. As it would happen, as certs have grown in stature over the last few years, more and more people have them and they are interesting resume items.
But real-world experience really does count more. For example: a few years of end-user helpdesk support experience without a murder conviction... that's a good indication... :-)
Hehehe. Yes, rl experience does help and I wonder sometimes if I'd be investing more in the future getting experience. But I don't want to just be a code monkey, I want to do something a little more interesting than just "write this module". And a master's might be a shortcut to that.
And I'm still young enough to think that it's sort of cool.
I agree with you, but I don't think most HR people do. I think a lot of HR people use the "cert/no cert" question to weed out job applicants before looking at actual experience. Most HR weenies can't evaluate technical experience, so they use the presence of certs as a "shorthand"; if you have a cert on your resume', it gets forwarded to the technical people for further evaluation. If you don't have a cert, your resume' goes in the circular file.
That's what I think, anyway.
This was a cool place on the way up there... The University of Washington School of Forest Sciences. Made me want to get a degree in Forest Sciences just for the cool dorm room-cabins.
They had riding trails right out of here too
Headwaters of the Nisqually River.
Getting closer...
View from Paradise.
Pretty mountain meadows...
Loading dogs back in the truck after a walk break ;~D
I'm not sure if you can appreciate just how far straight down it drops off here - no guard rails ;~D
Cool tunnel
Pretty vistas ;~D
Forest fire area:
Back side of the mountain...
Homer clowning around in the flowers on another walk break :~D
Beautiful day!
