The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!
Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Let them go! Let them go!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

6:30? sheesh!
An hour and a half early I think is more than I have ever needed. Even to fly overseas.

Mondays and Fridays are big business travel days. Lines are always long. Allowing extra time reduces the stress. You'll get to be one of the few serene souls in the security line while everyone around you is hopping with anxiety over being late.

Yeah, but I've flown very little. I always think about everything that could go wrong - my car could break down, my bags could get stuck somewhere, they might not have my ticket... and since I don't want to miss my flight, I'll be there early.
That's why they invented books, for while you're waiting for hours.

Is that true even first thing in the morning?
It's what I thought. Two, two-and-a-half hours would probaby be more than enough... but I don't mind waiting at the gate. I just read and sometimes sing weird things loudly to get peoples' reactions. Muppet songs are good for that.

An hour and a half early I think is more than I have ever needed. That won't get you through BWI on a Monday morning! I try to give myself 2 hours on busy days, but that never happens when I travel with She-who-needs-ritalin - so it's always a hyperstress nightmare.

I don't know about Denver, haven't been through the airport there.

True that, And why paper books are still better than e-books since you don't have to put them away for take-off and landing. Just don't do like I did and run out of reading material on the way back.

I'm taking the last Harry Potter book. It's about 900 pages. Hopefully that'll be enough; if not I'll buy something in Memphis.

It's usually pretty calm... but I've never flown out on a high-travel day. Ok. Be there by seven. But don't stress.

eee BWI is a heavy one. Denver is quite large but easy to get around if I recall correctly. Cedar Rapids is small enough to be very fast. The big ones are always slower, mainly due to huge lines at 'security'.

Sounds good - and especially don't stress.
Traveling with She-who-needs-ritalin is always a trial, but often funny, too. Her idea of getting to the airport two hours early means leaving her house two hours before the flight. It's an hour (+/- traffic) to the airport from our area. Then after screeching about how late we are when we're stuck in the security line, she'll take time to check out the shops on the way down to the gate.

I bet it would too!
I have another two cups of starter, but no more flour. I'll go get some more flour and make another batch this evening and just form them and then freeze them.
I would be a good thing to have around for a benevolence dish, or a pot luck!
One day...some day...I'm gonna just make massive amounts of food and stuff my freezer with it! I swear. You know how Scarlet says "As God is my witness I'll never be hungry again?" Well, we never went hungry, but it's been mighty tight at times. I wanna be able to go over to the freezer and open it up and practically fall over from all the food! LOL
I mean, just having all these peaches makes me feel better!

Denver's easy to get around but their shops are lousy. They don't sell anything but water, so you have to go to the restaurants and then you haven't got anything that you can seal.
Plus I always fly out of the C concourse and there's nothing there, it's like they forgot to finish it somehow.

I like small airports. El Paso is great. Ft. Walton Beach is great.
I have to be put on suicide watch if I'm connecting through O'Hare or Newark.
I actually like Atlanta - helps me with my cardio conditioning.

Some of my colleagues are ok to travel with. SWNR is just colorful. Big red Baltimore hair, loud Baltimore mouth. She's a nut, but I like her. The men I travel with are plesantly boring.
Have a book or a game on the laptop is a must.

I use to go through Atlanta a lot. Got to be one of the worlds largest but in a nice no-confusing layout. I to connect through O'Hare a lot these days. Not to bad since the CR-O'hare hop is pretty much always on-time.
