The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Darken her skin and hair a little bit, and she'd look for all the world like Hannan Ashwari, noted Palestinian apologist, who dated Peter Jennings for a short time.

I'm frying up liver and onions.

I'm drooling.

The family we visited in Japan are vegetarians. After a few days, I was craving some meat, so we stopped by a little shop that sold yakitori, "meat on a stick". It was bright out, and I was having some difficulty seeing through the windows of the case, so I chose what I thought was teriyaki chicken and some beef teriyaki. When we got home, and the girls took a bite they almost gagged!! It was chicken livers! LOL! I gave them the teriyaki chicken and ate all the livers myself. ;o)

Mmmm!! Meat on a stick!

The liver and onions turned out spectacular. I season it with lemon juice and worsteshire sauce. And butter.

Hmm, did Clare not study Japanese food carefully enough before you left? I thought you'd have left all the ordering to her... otherwise you could have ended up with something like takiyomi (balls 'o squid)

Clare's friend, Emilee, actually got fried octopus at the Ueno Park Festival. I tried it. It was mostly tasteless, just vey chewy!

There is this story of G'nad fighting it out with an octopus while on scuba...we had a neighbor who was used to cooking up such things and was delighted to do so because we shared it with her. It was shallow water, but the octopus put up a VERY good fight!

There is another story of a small (hand size) octopus that we put in our fish tank and how we had fish start to come up missing. :-)

We had such fun on Okinawa!
