The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Erm. Well.

That does sound silly.

Like that grizzly bear joke... "I don't have to outrun the bear. I only have to outrun *you*."

:-)

Okay, back to the laptop

To find out: left click the Start button; right click on My Computer; left click on Properties; left click on the General tab; in the "Computer" paragraph you should see the name of the chip and how much memory is installed.

This is vey embarrassing...

Celeron (R) CPU 2.00GHz
1.99 GHz
128 MB of RAM

Who bought this thing?

must...go...faster...

So, so I go to Dell and see what they recommend?

Yep. I explained that one to Jr. last week when he was complainin' about gettin' stuck behind some "family" kayakers with their little kids.

They were on the Alligator River...

A 2Ghz CPU isn't your bottleneck. It's that little bit of 128MB RAM that's hosing you. Bump that up to at least 512MB or better yet 1GB. It will be a lot of bang for the buck. Should cost somewhere just over $120 for a GB, less for 512.

ROTFL! I heard about this on Howie Carr today. I don't know why someone didn't anticipate this. It's like when you give things away, which is essentially what they were doing. How much did the school system pay for these laptops four short years ago? Seems like such a waste of money to me.

ALl right! DSL. We looked into getting ADSL, but it wasn't available in our area of town! So we ended up bugging the Cable company, and we finally got cable a couple of years later. We actually watched them as they installed it through town, celebrating as it inched closer, street by street!

They just amped up the speed on ours last week. I can't handle dial up anymore. W A Y too slow!

*snicker*

Hm...I just learned a lesson, I guess. Only just recently started posting any articles at all, and apparently obituaries of musicians don't belong in news of any kind. I know better than to put it in breaking news, but...hey, it's news in my book.

I shouldn't post things. It makes me really nervous even when it's silly stuff.

*grin* Hey! Can't blame ya for speakin' truth! :-D

I've got to wrangle these kids into bed. My mom gave them a hunk of yellow cake with chocolate frosting WAY too late in the evening. Several attempts to ask them nicely have had no lasting results.

It's now after 10pm. Time for the Wrath of Mom!

Nighty night, Hobbit Hole!

Dell should be able to tell ya what configuration of RAM is in it already - i.e. how many slots you've got left. So...there's that benefit to buying from 'em. They can use your service code to look it up.

And what Ramius said is right.

Hi Suzi!

Caught me on the way out. :-D

I can't wait to be rid of this dial-up. It's driving me nuts every time I attempt to enter a thread with pics or surf the web.

See you tomorrow!

Dilbert: What color memory would you like?

Pointy Haired Boss: I think mauve has more power...
