The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!
Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Let them go! Let them go!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Ok...here's a situation...tell me what you think of this?
A few months ago, before any of this situation happened, my former best friend (henceforth will be referred to as fbf) changed her email address. Nothing unusual, it's part of her phone company. But she never changed it in the BA CHEF egroup. I didn't bring it up because maybe she read the messages online or something and it didn't matter that it didn't go to her new email address. It was that way for a couple of months at least.
Anyway, just now I was checking the membership log on the egroup to see who had recently unsubscribed. The membership log tells you everything the membership does in relation to their account. I saw that FBF actually went in and changed her account so that now the posts to the group actually do go to her new address. She changed it yesterday morning.
Why?? I wonder why?? They have their own egroup, she doesn't belong to BA CHEF...why wouldn't she just unsubscribe??
Why do you think?

Are you cancelling people who don't join tonight? or at some future date?

Don't really know. Mind looking for me when I get home? Ungh, that would mean buying a tire pump, right?

Well, it seemed obvious to me too...but Hair, even this is astounding to me!! This is a person I thought I knew well, and I don't know her at all.
The September mom's meeting...that's the cutoff date. That night, after the meeting, I'm unsubscribing everyone that isn't a BA CHEF member. Some people have already unsubscribed.

Wouldn't you eavesdrop if you could? It's not all that surprising really.... that they'd want to lurk, as contentious as this has been.
If I were king I'd have cutoff those leadership types right away. Their intentions have already been made known. The other rank and file members, no big deal.

Actually, I could've eavesdropped...I started their new egroup! I was the king of it! I coulda kept my mouth shut and listened to everything they were saying.
But I didn't. Once I made my decision to not go with that new group, I turned ownership over to a lady who was joining the new group and completely signed out of the group.
It's vulgar to eavesdrop...it's beneath me. It's not dignified.
She can eavesdrop all she likes, though...because I'm moderating all the messages and nothing goes through that's not pro-BA CHEF. Which is why I'm in no rush to boot them. It'll happen in due time.
I'm the king of the world!

Is there a lot of talk about the split on the board?

No...none. Just the usual banter and tips and suggestions. Just one time I caught something that was hurtful...gloating. I didn't allow it.
The egroup is very specifically for fellowship and encouragement and people have been amazingly good. Perhaps they're hashing it out on the other board, I have no idea. I couldn't care less. I shook their dust off me but good.

Heh...my way of checking isn't very scientific, usually. I just feel if they're kinda squishy. But a decent pump with a gauge is something we'll need eventually, for sure. Tires lose pressure over time. Should be able to find a cheap pump, though.

OK by me. Maybe I can find more semi-decent cheap merlot.
And maybe find sprouting stuff at Whole Foods?

The reading *did* also say "for God all things are possible", so maybe I have a chance...Well, we're all praying hard for you. If you don't get this one, maybe it's because the Lord has something much better in store for you, and for which you might not have the opportunity if you're already employed somewhere else! ;o)

Well, the point will be moot after September anyway if she's not a member of BA CHEF.

This is true. And she has no idea that every message is moderated. I just feel like saying "Move along, nothing to see here." Heh heh.
Oh well, let 'er snoop.
I'm writing a speech. An absolute speech, completely reasonable and rational, free of emotion and drama, about why we should not set the precedence of letting another support group influence aspects of our support group.

My speech...what do you think? Fix my grammer if you see a mistake. Note I don't mention the name of the other support group ever. It's irrelevant.
I would like to speak to you about the decision on whether or not Broken Arrow Christian Home Educators Fellowship should change the night of their monthly Ladies Meeting.
My understanding is that there are some ladies from another support group that would like for us to change our meeting night to accommodate them. As far as I know, this is an unprecedented request. Not in all the five years that I have been a member of Broken Arrow CHEF have I heard of this occurring.
My opinion on this matter is that BA CHEF should not change its meeting night. My reasons are two-fold and I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to voice them at this time.
First of all, how would setting precedence such as this effect BA CHEF in the future? Would we feel obligated to schedule our activities around other support groups? Would we have to check with others to make sure there is no conflict before we set up a field trip? Where does it end, once the precedence is set?
Second, the last few weeks have been very hard on those of us that are faithful members of BA CHEF. We need stability. Without continuity, I do not believe we will be able to obtain stability.
So I submit that BA CHEF change nothing in its meeting date or even dues, for that matter, as these are stabilizing elements and will help us get back on our feet again quickly.
Once again, I thank you for allowing me to speak on this matter. I want you to know how very much I appreciate it.
