The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

LOL

Im not jumping in on the wedding thing. Mine went very well (I thought) but I have some bitter feelings about a couple of friends who got married and how they treated me when I was part of the wedding party. I have since decided that just because you throw a lot of money and hoopla around on your wedding day does not mean that your marriage will be a success. Its just a party. I was happy to be standing up to say my vows and my husband was the only person I thought of on that day.

The key to a successful event - any event - is 1) creating an environment where your guests are comfortable and 2) exceeding their expectations in small ways. Both of these can be done on a tight budget and neither requires you to go overboard on ~~rules~~. Having an ettiquite-nazi in charge puts everyone on edge because they'll spend the entire time wondering if they're measuring up and doing things right.

The key to a good event is enough booze ;-)

What I think it boils down to, and what I think Hair managed to accomplish, is that the wedding day should be exactly what the bride and groom want.

That's the way I feel about it! Someone here at work was going off about a wedding in Eastern WA where the reception was an outdoor potluck picnic. They thought it was just awful, but it sounded ideal to me!! And of course, nothing beats last year's event on the beach. ;)

Just enough, but not too much, eh? ;) As long as the bride and/or groom don't get drunk, it's all good. (the groom got drunk at my friend's wedding--I felt really sorry for her). But, I'm sure they got over that, have been married for quite a few years...

We didn't have alcohol at our wedding, mainly because of our families.

There will be alcohol AND dancing at our anniversary celebration(s).

But no place cards.

Well, yeah, there's always that.

But most folks I know are.

You think we'd handle snakes without alcohol?

Sunday'll be interesting. We'll have non-drinking vegetarian protestants (loooooong story) mixing with old-fashioned New York Irish Catholics.

Eeeeek!

LOL, well, maybe...

Fairly good.
Sorta.
Moping because a map I'm trying to make for Doom3 isn't going as I hoped.

I wouldn't handle 'em either way but I assumed snake-handlers are Baptist types.

You know, don't recognize each other in the likker store...

I am not a Baptist. Nor have I ever played one on FReeRepublic.

Said baptist-type... figgered the cult must have disapproved of drinkin', at least.

Ok, I admit I'm still a little shocked that my church uses wine in communion, but I think they must do that more out west. East I guess there's still a little more Prohibition sentiment in churches.

Mmm... wine... wonder if I can convince Dad to open a bottle of the Cloudy Bay whilst I'm home?

Sounds like a fun time! You got some Boca Burgers for the veggie crowd?
