The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!
Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Let them go! Let them go!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Did your wife think you were a little nuts calling so people could watch you on the webcam? I think the "driving to Florida to spend a weekend with 20 people I've never met" sorta broke her in. She was there for the photo last year.

Evening EGE - good question, don't know the answer but speculating artistic license. The arrows were all digital according to some explanations I've seen.
A number of Native American tribes held the bow in a similar fashion, horizontal or nearly so, using a pinch grip (thumb and one finger on a large nock) pulling back to the chest, according to historians and chroniclers. It's interesting to note that modern replicas using curated bow dimensions found most to be in the 40-45 lb pull range and that is about the strength level of the average archer/tester could pull the bow using the pinch grip. So it seems to fit.

Hmmm... maybe it's the zin but I can't tell a difference. I have a sneaky suspicion that my left eye is dominant. I've always had a feeling I *ought* to be left handed, but I'm not.... I'm ambidextrous for many tasks and favor my left for computer skills.

Actually, I explained that sortof wrong. I forget to give you a reference point. Let me try this again.
Looking through one eye only, hold your finger over a distant target or spot on the wall. Then open both eyes. on your dominant eye, when you open both eyes again, your finger will still be over the target. On the other eye, it won't.

Welcome back Corin. Glad you had a good time, the 'view' being the somewhat less than advertised. Beach looks inviting.

It was a great house in spite of the lack of view. We plan to point out in the follow up survey that they over advertised a bit.
But we also realized that my brother and his wife spoil their renters. They pay a lot more attention to details because it's their house and they have personal relationships with all their renters.
Still, I loved bein' able to walk to the beach.

BTW,
Check out today's "Family Circus" (it's not online yet). That ~exact~ scene happened with Luke yesterday. We're framing it.

Woe is me, all summer long I was happy and free.
Save my soul, the board of education took away my parole.
I gotta go back, back, back to school again.
Next post from Fangorn.

Did y'all get a deluge last night? We got three thunderboomers in a row. This morning, we had a steady heavy rain for an hour or so. I saw on FoxNews that there was flooding in Weymouth.
We went out to Lowe's yesterday evening, and the breakdown lanes on Rt. 9 were like lakes. The drainage grates were just not keeping up with the volume of water that came down so fast. Once we get home, we don't have to worry about flooding. We live on top of a hill; we'd have to have a flood of Biblical proportions to do us any harm.
