Seriesly. Huge soiree on Sunday. I may not have place cards for everyone (it's a b-b-que) but my floors *will* be clean. dangit.
Rats. I missed. :P
You can't have 'em all.
Soiree. Fun. Name cards, no fun.
Yep, the day of the HUGH booksale at the library! Yippee!!
At least I have SOMETHING to look forward to. ;-)
It's all family so it should be fun. 'cept being the hostess is a lot of work.
Thanks!
Don't I know! It was my turn to host dinner-and-movies night last night, so I spent all Tuesday cleaning and then fretted about the food for ages. It went over well, even if I crisped the bread a little too much.
Mornin'.
~sip~
Good Morning!
Morning Ruthy!
Gah, got to get to work before the HP thread EATS MY BRAIN!!!
I have GOT to stay away from the computer. I come to it with all sorts of good intentions, and before you know it I have wasted time.
NOT that chatting with the HHdwellers is a waste! Not by far. But my mind does love to wander....
Okay, I just hafta ask: has anyone actually been to a wedding reception with place cards? I'm thinkin' we don't do such things in the Pac. NW, hicks that we are out here, or maybe it's just me. I would feel like I was in gradeschool again. Not that there's anything wrong with them, I was just curious if in other places people are more inclined to do that sort of thing, or if I just don't travel in those circles (which is probably the case anyway).
PS: 'morning, everyone! :) Rode into work today, and I was SO SLOW! But I feel great!
I just pinged you to another one...
Are they still claiming Tolkien/LOTR was just an allegory?
I'm personally so tired of the rants against HP that I find it easier to think about something else. But it really ticks me off when someone keeps coming in to say that LOTR was an allegory. I made up my mind right along with Tolkien himself : allegories are 'icky.' LOL Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia are wonderful, but I don't appreciate them as well as Middle Earth. Its Lewis' other books that I like much much better.
Yes. But then, I live in the south.
Wife and I have done a lot of weddings, either providing music or assisting in planning. Wife is playing for one this weekend.
We've seen ~everything~.
What I think it boils down to, and what I think Hair managed to accomplish, is that the wedding day should be exactly what the bride and groom want.
Yes, there's a "proper" way to do things, and you can go that route if you need to. But I reject the thought that there are things you ~must~ do to be "properly married."
I'm not good at not looking bored, however.
Informality does not equal hickishness. Formality, when it's a game of form over function, does not equal class.
I saw that thread before... sigh... it's like those anti-wimmin threads Rosie gets herself into, I can't help myself.
I haven't. But I've only been two two weddings since I was ten. One of those my whole family was invited to the ceremony, even though other than that they didn't invite kids, because we had a very special connection with the bride. But we weren't at the reception. It could have been that formal, maybe. The wedding was very elegant.
The other was for a pair of my old friends, who were getting married young and on the cheap. Their reception was in the church basement and there were barely tables, let alone place settings. But they're just as married as the other guys
Oh, *sputter*, but, *tsk tsk* they didn't do it CORRECTLY. ;P
Heh. You'd have to take that up with their fathers - hers looked thrilled to be marrying off his lovely daughter, his was the preacher who did the wedding.
It would be incorrect for a poor couple from not-rich families to spend 100k on a wedding, when they could spend 2k and be just as happy.
