The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Good morning! I'm processing more maters today - drying some and making sauce with others - and chopping zucchini. They must be put up or I'll loose them. Big'ol doesn't eat veggies when I'm TDY and I'm TDY a bunch this month. *sigh*

Good Morning OT - Happy to report that yesterday's precipitation was nearly 2 inches, and we got about a half inch since midnight. The garden and trees are saying 'Ahhhh'. Sould be a cooler weekend albeit drizzly or rainy.

Mornin'. Last full day at thebeach...snif...

Stayed up late playin' games. Waitin' fer Jr's friend's mom to come and pick him up. He's gotta go to a "last minute" family reunion. Don't ask.

It's been a good week. Although we're thinkin' of doin' it a little different next year. Jr. doesn't want to come back, so we may come a bit later in August, after school starts here, and save some bucks. He'll be able to drive himself to football practice.

We'd make drivin' out to Colorado the family vacation. We'll see.

Hair, if I don't make it back on line, I'll call you between 7-8 a.m. your time tomorrow.

Do you dry them in the oven? I tried drying them in the sun, but they mildewed after a couple of days, not a pretty sight!

I usually just blanch and then freeze them, either chopped or as whole tomatoes. There is nothing like homemade tomato soup in the winter!! This year has been so hot and dry I'm not sure how many extra I'll be able to get... LSA

I have a dehydrator. The oven uses too much energy and heats up the house. When they're mostly dry, I put them in jars with a clove of garlic and a few leaves of fresh basil. They keep nice in the fridge that way.

Gotcha. New fangled equipment! I love basil more than almost any other herb. Mine started flowering way early this year 'cause of the heat and I've really had to keep pulling flowerheads almost all summer. Do you keep basil fresh in olive oil too? LSA

Herbs haven't been a priority, so no. They'll get more attention in next year's garden, tho. Right now I'm making notes in my garden journal to *not* plant two zucchini plants next year. One should do it. :)

Don't think so. It looks a ~little~ like my brother, but that's not their cat.

Thanks. We're headin' back over to thebeach in a bit for our last afternoon there. I'll prolly walk again in the a.m.

It's been a good week. And I just spent a bit of time strategerizing for the next year. "This is what I'll accomplish before next beach week." Did purty good with last year's list. Need to do better.

This year's includes things like "leave pool Board." That's already happening and my replacement is named. I'm officially done there on Labor Day. I'll continue to help out, but not be in charge. That works.

Also includes "no Christmas show" this year. I love doing it, but it makes me tired just thinking about it. I'll stay in the choir this time though.

It's weird, I don't want to leave, but I'm getting anxious to get back and get started on some of this stuff.

I can make it another year...

Happy to report that yesterday's precipitation was nearly 2 inches

Great. It's a humid 93 degrees here and no air conditioning. There are thunderstorms in the area and it's supposed to cool off sometime Sunday...or Monday.

Stoopid airlines! We all had our flights coordinated to arrive around 10:30. And I get stuck waiting around for an hour and a half in Chicago TO FIX A TOILET! Grrrr.....everybody's been already! Won't the plane fly with one toilet??!! Then they had a red light on the panel when we wer taxiing and it's another 45 minutes for that. Didn't get to Providence until 1:00. At least they waited for me....didn't get to bed last night until 3:00.

We went down to Plymouth today and had seafood and did a little shopping. We're watching the Red Sox now. Tomorrow we're going to my cousin's house for a cookout. Going to my other cousin's house at the beach on Monday.

Evening OT - whoa, what a flight. Were you able to at least use your drink coupons.

In a updated weather report we got another two inches of rain today, front dropped the temps to 67 degrees.

It's a welcome relief after the past few weeks. :-)

Were you able to at least use your drink coupons.

With those kinds of delays, the drinks should have been free!! That's what happened on my trip back from MS in June. We had to wait on the tarmac for almost an hour, so we got free drinks. I had coffee with kahlua; yum.
