The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Ya know, I don't. But on one of the local radio stations there's this sweet old fella with a Wed. afternoon show called "Jazz and Other Stuff." The 'other stuff' being Dixieland and Zydeco. It's *great*! I just don't have any. :(

Years ago, when it was just Steve and I, we hiked way way off into the woods in Minnesota to a lake to fish and skinny dip! I actually have pictures (discreetly done) of us fishing in nothin' but our birthday suits! LOL!!!!

That was WAY before digital and I actually had those pictures developed! LOL! I wonder what the photo developer musta thought.

They're packed away, up in the attic and I wonder what the boys will think when they stumble on them, after Steve and I have grown old and gone on to our reward...

There's hardcore zydeco, and then there's stuff like "Beausoleil" who do sorta country rock and zydeco mixed up. They did the soundtrack to Belizaire the Cajun, and were the 'back up' band on Mary Chapin Carpenter's video of "Down at the Twist and Shout".

LOL- there's a thought. Someday they'll be old enough to appreciate you as fellow adults and find joy in the fact that adults have fun adventures, too.

After we lost Dad, Mom started telling a few stories none of us had heard before. I remember my eyes bugging out and saying, "Mom!!!" But as an adult, I can smile and appreciate how sweet they were when they were young and in love.

This guy plays the pretty traditional stuff done with mostly acoustic instruments - nothing rock or pop-ish. It's a fun drive home.

It's fun to imagine them discovering that perhaps Mom and Dad weren't the stuffed shirts they thought they were.

Heh heh...

Do tell! ;-)

You know, by the time I met Steve, 4-5 years after the fishin' in the dark episode, I had learned for myself that you gotta proceed cautiously through this life sometimes!

I met Steve in a restaurant/bar listening to a band in Austin. He escorted me to my car afterward and then asked if he could call me some time. I looked him in the eye and said "Are you a nice person?" He literally paused a second and gave it a bit of thought, then said "Yeah, I'm a nice person."

The rest is history.

Any chance of getting a larger house for Rocky Mountain Moot? We're thinking of doing a family vacation, and if we could do it in conjunction with a moot, that would be great. I mentioned it to SSQ's older brother, and he said he'd LOVE to go to the Rockies. I'd love for SSQ and the older boys and the b-i-l to meet everybody. So there would be the six of us and SSQ's older brother. I know we'd like our own room, and it would be nice if the b-i-l could have a small bedroom of his own; he's a priest and used to NOT bunking with others. Clare could bunk with the girls and the boys could bunk with the single HH guys. We'd be happy to pay a premium since we'd be requesting more room.

At this point we've only got about six confirmed "yes" replies. The place we get will be dependent on who can come and how much they can afford, but probably yes.

*ahem* I have just spoken to Big'ol, who is seated in the lazyboy next to mine, and there will be no story telling on a forum for the world to see.

But right now we're watching Austin Powers and giggling like kids.

You know I saw what I thought was a Monty Python skit many many years ago that had this old man standing in a stream and he was holding two bricks and he declares "ANYONE WHO STANDS IN A STREAM AND BANGS BRICKS TOGETHER SHOULD BE TAXED!" Then he bangs the two bricks together and says "AHHHHH!" and falls over backward in the stream.

I can't find that skit anywhere online and I'm beginning to wonder if I hallucinated it...
